Lads/Ladies - Let's play a game of 'What's more important to you?'

No doubt alot of us have been around the block. Shit project? Been there. Prick of a Commercial/Operational Manager/Director?Got t-shirt. A job that burnt you out? Tell me about it. 60/90 min commute? What's new. Absolute useless PM? I could cry.

Here are some situations ive been in:

  1. Average pay - whilst everyone else earning more.

  2. Shit Project Location (more than 1hr +commute).

  3. Shit PM/Senior Management Tea - don't follow procedures, inept, or just ruthless cvnts.

  4. Poorly run company - treats employees poorly, or, doesn't run jobs properly, or, never hires enough QSs for a job so spreads you thin.

  5. Shit job (project) - working on a boring job, based on a compound that looks straight out of Beirut.

  6. Inept staff - fellow team members who dont know how to put a proper ITT pack together, or write a scope of works properly.

So, if you absolutely had to say no to 3 of those in the list, what would they be and why? Any particular stories or examples would be good.

I've experienced them all. Pains me wherever I land, I end up having 1 of the above I'm not happy with (construction for you).

I'm currently in the position where I have a piss poor incompetent PM - BUT - my positives are;

  1. I WFH 2 days a week;

  2. I'm 35 mins from office:

  3. and rest of team are lovely.

So come on, what are absolute no's for you? What will you put up with, and won't?

Which is the best swimming pool in Merseyside?

This can be as far reaching as Formby BTW.

I used to go Aquatic Centre but either, pools are regularly closed for schools or competitions, or they're rammed with students and kids. I can never relax, as I suffer from anxiety 😔

Im happy to go late at night (9pm swim), or very early morning (6am), provided i know its gonna be quiet. Im also happy to go as far as Formby? Not early morning obviously, but after work or of a weekend?

Which leads me onto the Formby Pool Trust? Ive walked past it a few times when ive visited Formby at the weekend and it looks lovely. Its not an area which has students, but appreciate it is a family area with kids. Does anyone know much about this Formby Pool Trust at all please?

Other option is Uni of Liverpool, which im definitely considering for first thing of a morning (as its a decent sized pool and I dont expect it to be busy with students that time of morning 😂 They dont do late evening swims sadly.

Would really appreciate your help.

Did you know you can check out the food rating of restaurants- before you order from/book somewhere new?

Came across this via another forum, and whilst I did know restaurants have food ratings, I've never paid much attention to the sticker in their window/info on their website.

I guess I just take for granted the food will be ok? We live in a country with very high standards surrounding H&S, so it wasn't too much of a surprise to find that 99/100, ive never had food poisoning.

Nevertheless, it was interesting to check out my local restaurants on Lark Lane. You can check out yours via here: https://ratings.food.gov.uk/

'Make your own mayonnaise, it's easy' they said - so why am I getting it so wrong?

Just wasted 4 perfectly decent eggs trying to make this 'easy home made mayo'. I started with a food processor, was still runny. Figured I'd poured the oil in too quickly, and too much, so I randomly decided to switch to a proper electric whisk instead - and gradually - bit by bit, pour sunflower oil in.

So, I started with 2 eggs - whisk.

Then added 1 tblsp of mustard - whisk.

Added a tiny bit of sunflower oil - carry on whisking.

Another bit of sunflower oil- carry in whisking for 2 mins.

CARRY ON BIT BY BIT UNTIL I SEE IT BEGIN TO THICKEN...

Add tablsp lemon juice.

Another bit of sunflower oil - whisk.

IT'S STILL PISSSING RUNNY! 😫

What am I doing wrong? Its 4 ingredients. Thats it. How hard can it be....

Terminal 2 Refurb - what on earth is going on...?

Apologies if a similar moan has been posted! 🤣

First time at Manchester Airport T2 - since the refurb that is....

There is a queue for EVERY RESTAURANT.

I've never had to queue to get into somewhere to eat at T2 before? In fact, I've never queued at any Airport I've been to around the world! 🤣

Did I miss something?

Its not even summer holidays yet.

If Friday is a WFH day, just how productive are you?

When I'm in the office those 3 days (T, W, T), come Friday, my head is absolutely burnt. It's proper full on in the office, in terms of being long days, over stimulating, and having to turn into a chameleon given the diverse range of personalities....

So, on Friday's, like today at home, I'm absolutely wrecked from previous 3 days in the office, to the extent that I can't be arsed to do much? I had a Teams meeting this morning, which was bearable, as it was with a nice chilled person. But after that, I've gone in full 'CBA' mode....

Please tell me I'm not the only one who feels like this on WFH Friday's.... 😬

Is it common to have regular delays from Corfu airport?

I'm waiting for the Ryanair flight 897 from Corfu to Liverpool to take off, and looks like all or 98% of flights have been/are delayed?

Is this fairly common for Greek airports, more notably Corfu? Just be curious to find out what is causing the delays really.

Thanks all, any help is appreciated.

From a Commercial PIV, what's your understanding of what goes in a Main Contract Programme '?

We (PM and I), have been tasked with putting together a Contract Programme for a client of ours, as part of securing some future framework contacts.

Problem is, my PM isn't great - and thats putting it mildly. I mean, he's more of a domestic roofing Contractor's PM, that a Tier 1 PM. So his idea of a Procurement Schedule, is whipping something up in Excel and putting some key dates in (doesnt even bother pulling SOS dates from Programme.....).

Anyway, so ive got to plug in some Procurement lead in times, for various work packages. Which is sound and I can do, but for some reason he has already cracked on with inputting other commercial tasks - during Delivery stage? He has started putting in lines for when we submit interim client applications (doesn't even look at contract, just puts fingers in air), and when we are due assessment, and subsequent certificate- then payment..

From my POV, we dont need to be including these Commercial tasks, as it has no bearing whatsoever on delivering the job? I've never ever seen this included in programmes- whether thats a £45m student job, or a £300m Highways scheme. Even on a £12m school, ive never seen these Commercial tasks included in Contract Programme.

This is for small civils jobs, for a SCAPE framework, delivering for various councils, NEC PSC (ECI then Delivery).

So, is their legitimate argument for including these Commercial tasks, during Delivery stage at all? I dont think he should be myself, but hes one of thise PMs who's inexperienced and thinks hes the Ops Director and Commercial Director in one....

"Total liability to Contractor which arises under or in connection with contract is limited to" - how to calculate?

Firstly, when this section (of PSSC) refers to 'in connection with the contract' is it taking about the PSSC - or main contract? In layman's terms what is it saying and how it it different to insurances liabilities set out in table for EL, PI etc?

Then, this is where im struggling- i can either put a '% of Total of Prices'or a actual value (like £5m).

How do I calculate what this total liability should be?

This PSSC value is only £2k - so buttons really.

I guess im better stating a %, I.e. '120% of Total of Prices', in that case?

The main contact states '120% of Activity Schedule', but again I guess i dont always go back to back with main contractor, because this is only a £2k PSSC....

Any help would be appreciated thanks 😊

Professional Service Contract and Professional Service Short/Sub Contract- what to use downstream?

So as a main contractor, we are in a Professional Services Short Contract with a Local Authority under a framework agreement. Its low value low risk.

Now, I want to get into a contract with a consultant providing some early engagement services.

Can I use the same form of contract as that between us and the Client? I.e. a Professional Services Short Contract?

I always thought downstream it goes to a sub-contract or sub-consultant - but I can't find a NEC agreement to cater for downstream contracts. So Professional Service Short Subcontract (but it doesn't exist).

Scouser, lived here since I was born (1978).

I've read all the previous posts about litter being a problem in our city and its getting worse.

I've just come back from London for the weekend and I couldn't believe how clean the streets are. Like, everywhere i went from Hampstead to Westminster was spotless.

Now, we've said on here before about how it all starts with educating people FIRST, as opposed to just providing more bins.

But - why aren't people scruffy cvnts in London- but they are in Liverpool?!

Is it mainly a northern thing why we're scruffy? I just dont get it. We have students and tourists- like London- but our streets are a dump. Unless its a certain demographic that do this in Liverpool.....

It makes no sense. Same tourists. Same students. Two different busy cities. One has spotless streets (and ten times more tourists), the other has litter everywhere (not just city centre).

I never saw one person throw rubbish on the floor in London. I've seen that a few times in Liverpool. Have you seen the absolute kip of that area bottom of Bold Street- next door to Burger King?! Its vile.

So, what is London doing right that we deffo aren't? Is it our council? If we had big bins regularly located everywhere in town - with regular street cleaning (including power washing the gum seen every square inch of pavement) - do you think that'd make the difference?

Honestly, it makes me sick how much we're neglecting our own city.
