I need to present a math concept of my choosing, so im wondering what is a complex and interesting, but not totally out of depth concept or theory for a bunch of highschool students.

passion project details

hey, so im currently looking to start another solo passion project/"venture" and I just needed to understand something. my idea is a total social initiative geared towards rural workers, and it involves financial literacy and a plethora of features which i hope to share through my initiative.

tbh my main problem is that what im offering to do can be accessible through like an AI bot. so im js wondering if i am able to take my idea and expand it through working with NGOs and overall reach people with my initiative do you think that will outweigh the fact that the features offered can be done by AI as well? from what ive seen online normally the main idea doesnt really matter as long as the actual impact can be seen, would this be true as well?

(its like 2 am where im at and im very tired so sorry if this doesnt make the best grammatical sense bear with me😭)

A passion project about rural workers in india, worth it to develop further?

Hi everyone, I’m a rising junior interested in finance, social impact, and product design, and I’m considering developing a passion project focused on rural financial inclusion in India.

The idea is to create a simple tool that helps rural Indian workers understand financial documents like loan agreements, bank passbooks, government scheme letters, pension/subsidy notices, and insurance forms. The target users would mainly be SHG members, microfinance borrowers, and women/workers receiving government benefits.

The basic concept is: a worker or trusted intermediary, like an SHG facilitator, NGO field worker, or ASHA worker, takes a photo of a document. The tool then gives a simple spoken explanation in the user’s local language, highlighting key details like due dates, interest rates, fees, repayment amounts, required documents, next steps, and possible red flags such as hidden charges or unusually bad loan terms.

It would also generate simple scripts for what the woman can say at a bank, SHG meeting, lender office, or government office, so it is not just explaining the document but helping her actually take action. I am considering other features although these will be the main two.

I’m thinking of distributing it through NGOs, SHGs, microfinance partners, or CSR/grant-funded pilots rather than expecting individual rural users to download an app themselves.

Do you think this is a strong passion project to pursue further? I’d especially appreciate feedback

How do i even begin doing research?

Hi everyone, I’m a rising junior interested in starting research, especially in areas like economics or business. I have ideas for topics I care about, but I’m not sure how to turn an idea into an actual research question, find credible sources, structure the paper, or know whether the topic is “researchable.”

For someone starting from zero, what would be the best first steps? Should I begin by reading papers, contacting mentors, joining a program, or trying to write independently first? Also, are there any beginner-friendly resources, databases, journals, or examples of student research papers that you would recommend?

Any advice on how to choose a strong topic, avoid common beginner mistakes, and eventually make the research presentable or publishable would be really appreciated. DM me if possible!

UN volunteering. Worth it or not?

Recently on Instagram, TikTok, and other social media, I've been seeing a lot of promotion for united nations volunteering (UN volunteering and UNICEF), and I was just wondering: would this be a good opportunity to pursue (id doing a remote version of the internship/volunteering)?

Is there any prestige behind it if you take up a leadership role? Would universities see this as an actual valued commitment or like on the same lines as volunteering as a tutor?

Current & Former MYP Students: What would you do differently if you could do the MYP again?

This question is for anyone who is currently doing the IB MYP or has already completed it.

Looking back on your MYP experience, what would you do differently to make the process easier, less stressful, or more successful?

I'm particularly interested in things like:

  • eAssessment preparation
  • Personal Project (research, process journal, report, product, etc.)
  • ePortfolios
  • Note-taking and revision resources
  • Study methods that worked well
  • Guidance and support from teachers or the school
  • Meeting assessment criteria effectively
  • Common mistakes students make
  • Things you wish you had started earlier
  • Advice you would give your younger MYP self
  • MYP resources you used (websites, notes, guides, YouTube channels, textbooks, etc.)
  • What was helpful about those resources and what you think could be improved or changed

Basically, if you could go back to the start of the MYP, what would you do differently, and what advice would you give to someone who wants to get the most out of the programme?

I'd love to hear about your experiences, lessons learned, resources you found useful, and anything else you think future MYP students should know. Thanks! :)

Should i take Cs HL or Chem HL?

currently ive been wanting to go ahead in finance/accounting, i just took a math entrance test for HL math which im 90% sure im going to get denied for doing math aa hl. im debating my sciences between cs and chem and cs makes much more sense in terms of my major but i guess it lacks rigour whilst chem makes less sense but has more rigour. im also applying to the US which to my knowledge doesnt prioritize subject selections as much as the UK or other countries would

so apart from math aa hl im currently weighing my other options and idk which makes most sense:

econ business and cs HL and math aa sl or econ business and chem HL and math aa sl

there is another way which is if i ask to do math AI hl and do eco business and math ai but again for my sciences i generally dont know between cs and chem.

so what should i think of going ahead in

Would the International Business Olympiad be good to do?

Hi, so i have recently come across the International business olympiad. Personally, I've scored my best grades in business (95-100% range). The syllabus wouldn't be a problem for me either as a good majority of it i have finished in school classes and such. The first solo competition is july 25th. My questions are, is it worth it to do the IBO? Is there any prestige or such around it - would universities see it as commendable? Also, do you think its possible to study for it properly considering i start this week? Ive heard many olympiads take years of studying but im not sure if this is really on the level of a Math olympiad or Physics.

Anyways, i wanted to know if its a viable option to put effort into as im already participating in 2 passion projects, 1 other competition, SAT prep, and preparations for IBDP HL subjects.
