Can a GP do lipoma excision?
Hello! Newly minted GP here! Respectfully, I ask this question to all of you po: "Is it okay if I remove simple lipomas? Or is the procedure reserved to a specialist?"
Some background:
When I was an intern, I have been trained by a general surgeon on how to diagnose lipoma and how to remove it.
The dude let me do the first step up to the final step under his laser-like deep-sea pressuring eyes. Of course, with frequent guiding and corrective instructions while I am doing the procedure. He taught me with a mixture of positive feedback, rebuking of bad moves, and socratic questioning.
After that, I reimagined the whole process like I had PTSD and formulated multiple 'what if' questions in my head which caused me to lose sleep and delve deep into the rabbit hole of varying journals about lipoma itself.
I just want to know what my limits are. Hence, I ask the question: Is the procedure reserved to a specialist? Because if yes, end of story. I'll just refer the patient.
Thank you so much to those who will respond!
