i turned 15 last month, but i still don’t have a mobile phone. I really want one, but my mum is against them. she’s kind of alternative in the way that she dose’t let us eat 99% of foods, and we’re those “unschooled” kids that have never been taught basic maths and my 11 year old brother cannot read a single word… yeah- anyway, my mum actually didn’t used to be against mobile phones, but now she is apparently. We moved last year and she’s met some new friends that are very anti-technology so ig she got it from them. i 100% get that it’s bad for me to be looking at a screen all day, but that’s not her issue… i’ve literally been unsupervised on my ipad for 10+ hours a day since i was four because she thinks that’s how i’m learning... spoiler alert, no mum i am not learning calculus from watching family guy. idk why she doesn’t want me to have a mobile phone. honestly my main reason for wanting one is so I don’t seem weird if i talk to someone my own age, and they find out I don’t have one. i just want to seem like a normal teenager sometimes 😭

anyway, i do think MAYBE she’d let me have one if i phrase it right? i’ll be paying for it myself, i have a few thousand saved up from pocket money and youtube revenue. i just want a cheap refurbished iphone, nothing fancy. but i’m EXTREMELY nervous to tell her, she’s always been proud of me for not wanting one, but now i do and i feel like she’ll be mad. So how should i tell her?

btw I totally understand that having a phone is a big privilege, i may have come across as ungrateful in my post, but i do understand that having a phone isn’t something that I’m entitled to. My family is financially privileged though, and like i said, i will pay for it fully so it’s not like my mum isn’t letting me have one for financial reasons.

i’ve seen alot of comments about me going to friends houses ect, welp I don’t exactly have any irl friends 😭 honestly i feel like if i had a phone i would feel more normal, then maybe I’d actually have the courage to talk to people… Maybe that’s a reason i could tell her?
