What is up with cyclists in Geneva
I’ve gotten into cycling lately and most of my rides are just commuting to school and back around Geneva. One thing I genuinely don’t understand is how many cyclists completely ignore red lights .
Even when there’s a bicycle specific traffic light, and even when cars are clearly coming from other lanes or turning at intersections, some cyclists still squeeze forward to the absolute last centimeter possible and then just go through anyway
Is there some kind of cycling culture/rush I’m not understanding or are people just impatient? Because I always feel embarrassed waiting properly at the red light while everyone else rides past me like I’m doing something wrong. I know I’m not doing anything wrong, but I don’t understand why everyone is always in such a hurry I’ve seen so many cyclists almost hit pedestrians because they couldn’t wait an extra 30 seconds.
And also why are motorcycles constantly in the bicycle lane or in the bike waiting zones at traffic lights? I almost got hit by a car because I didn’t have enough space at the front of the line to position myself properly for a left turn. The motorcycles had taken up the whole area and when I started moving out the car almost didn’t see me in time..
