First Catch Within City Limits

First Catch Within City Limits

I have been trying to catch a fish out of the NSR, or within city limits, for about 3 years now. Zero luck. I started fishing about four years ago and for the most part, I am self-taught. I’ve met a few random old anglers through friends that were helpful, but for the most part, YouTube (seriously lacking Canadian content) and old fishing books have been my go to. As you can imagine, I have lost A-LOT of lures and baits.

Well, I have officially caught my first Pike! Absolute blast catching this little dude. Lost one about 3 minutes before him, and lost another one right after him.

It’s not much, but it validated all of the hard work and effort I’ve put into this.

Apologies for the long post. Caught him in Whitemud Creek near the whitemud bridge.

Emergency services have shut down the low lever bridge because there is a lady sitting on top of the bridge threatening to jump. I took a picture and got a video of it, but I’m not going to post it because I just don’t think it’s in good taste.

I hope everything works out and everyone ends up safe at the end of it.

Edit/update: appreciate everyone that was reasonable and noticed that my taking of the video could have been an unexpected reaction rather than wanting to “record someone in their moment of pain”. In hindsight, my fault for saying I did. That being said before you jump on here and come for my throat, maybe take the time to consider how unsettling a situation like that is to everyone. I wasn’t the only one with my phone out, but I WAS the only one that stopped immediately when I realized what was happening and what I was recording.

My initial reason for taking a video was because I live in the area and was just recording a video to send to my wife to let her know the bridge is closed. It wasn’t until I zoomed in to the police vehicles on the opposite side of the bridge that I noticed there was a person on there. I have first hand experience with suicide (two counts of a failed attempt) and suicidal people.

Please, before you get on your high horse, and then refuse to accept that it was done in earnest and not with malice, consider that there may be more to the situation.

Point of the post was so people don’t go that way and end up in the same situation as the 100 or so cars that were stuck, practically having to watch it happen.

From the looks of it, everything worked out and traffic is back and flowing.
