Fishing near central Edmonton
Are places like Victoria or Hawrelak park worth time spent, or is it worth travelling further up the river?
Thanks in advance.

Don't worry she was only outta the water for the length of this video no longer. Caught on a worm 4lbs line UL rod. Only been fishing trout for a little bit here but I'm having a lot of fun!
Looking to try fly fishing out for the first time and I'm wondering what weight rod to get. I mostly fish the north Saskatchewan in Edmonton (but hoping to try some mountain rivers and streams) and was thinking I might need an 8 weight rod combo, but most people seem to recommend a 5 weight for a beginner. Any thoughts?
Hey guys, I know this is a LONG shot, but I lost my fishing rod out on Lac St. Anne over may long weekend.
Location:
It was in the western half of the lake, maybe 20’-30’ on the eastern side of the north tip of the big island (farming island as per maps)
Edit: the rod is in the water, not on land.
Description:
It’s an old green Daiwa Regal, ultra light rod with a shimano Sahara reel attached to it. It’s pretty short, ~5’ long. It should have a neon pink lure with a white lightning bolt down the center, it runs braided line with a mono backing.
Couldn’t care less about the reel or lure, it’s just the rod. It means the world to me, it was my dad’s old rod. If you happen to snag it and see this post- PLEASE let me know. I’ll pay handsomely for it- as far as I know, the rod is irreplaceable due to its age (let alone the sentimental value- my dad caught his trophy walleye on it)
Hoping this will work- I’ve already went diving in the freezing lake and went on a second fishing trip to try and find it- so I’m out of ideas.
Thanks guys :)
Met someone called Matthew at southern Chestermere and I found an expensive-looking lure that was left behind. If your name’s Matthew and you fished Chestermere yesterday hit me up.
Seems like most people go to the Bow River to catch Trout, however are there any lakes within 1-2 hours of Calgary that have Trout?
I've been spending the last couple weekends in the Ghost PLUZ between Sundre and Cochrane (trying to find some creeks to fish while I wait for everything in ES1 to open) and I was wondering how people have done in the creeks in that area. Im not looking for spots or anything but routinely on some of these more well known creeks, what looks like good holding water (pools, seams, overhead cover, etc) I'm seeing zero signs of fish. Mind you I'm used to creeks where if I'm not catching anything at least I'm accidentally scaring fish so I know they are there.
I guess my question is do people have consistent success there, is it hit or miss? The water looks fishy but I'm not seeing any fish. Any help or tips would be much appreciated another related question is what do you normally fish streamers, dry, nymphs, etc?

For those coming out to this film, Water Not Coal will be there to stop the contamination of our water from new coal mining.
Water contamination affects every home, hospital, care facility, food related business, agriculture, a lot of jobs and your health. How does this not affect you?
Existing coal mining has already left contamination in the fish in the area and now the GOA want to start more projects in our headwaters. This is leading to elimination of certain species because they are unable reproduce., For more information, please check out https://www.waternotcoal.ca/why

I have been trying to catch a fish out of the NSR, or within city limits, for about 3 years now. Zero luck. I started fishing about four years ago and for the most part, I am self-taught. I’ve met a few random old anglers through friends that were helpful, but for the most part, YouTube (seriously lacking Canadian content) and old fishing books have been my go to. As you can imagine, I have lost A-LOT of lures and baits.
Well, I have officially caught my first Pike! Absolute blast catching this little dude. Lost one about 3 minutes before him, and lost another one right after him.
It’s not much, but it validated all of the hard work and effort I’ve put into this.
Apologies for the long post. Caught him in Whitemud Creek near the whitemud bridge.
Which of these is your preferred spot for trout fishing? Going out to nordegg tomorrow will probably try both. I would be open to trying abraham as well under the Cline bridge but I've heard it's not worth it.
Hiked to a spot casted out and looked down the 8’ bank and this big fella was having a bath.
I was on the lake and thought a moose was swimming across went to bet a closer look. Nope it was a black bear now actively trying to swim to my boat.
My family and I are planning on checking out the Hawrelak Park grand reopening this long weekend and I noticed there are a few pretty accessible shoreline spots along the NSR.
Just wondering if anyone has actually had luck fishing this stretch? Mainly wondering about shore fishing for pike or walleye. Any decent spots, rigs, or bait recommendations for this area?
Thanks!
I’ve been fishing for many years, and embarrassingly enough, I’ve never been able to catch a walleye, even when other people around me were. Where in central Alberta can a guy go to catch one? Not looking for specific spots, I can find those, just general bodies of water. Tips for catching them is appreciated too
Also, does anyone know if the Little Red Deer River is good for fishing at all?
Thanks!
I’ve been looking at getting into fly fishing and I live in Edmonton. Is there any good fly fishing spots that are within a 2 hour drive?
Are there okay spots to shore fish at cold lake? I've never been there but I want to get out there soon and try catch lake trout. I don't have a boat.
