Struggling with 3 month old puppy
So I’ve had my standard poodle pup for about 4.5 weeks. He’s 13 weeks on Tuesday. I grew up with dogs, had a shi tzu and a lab as a kid but this is my first dog as an adult and the first one I’ve trained myself. I love him to death but I’m getting so frustrated with him. He is so bitey and land sharky that it is not enjoyable to spend time with him. I do short training sessions with him and if I’m not rewarding him fast enough or in between commands he jumps and nips at me. I give him puzzle toys and snuffle mats for mental stimulation but puzzles seem to hype him up more. He’s very hit or miss with snuffle mats. I’ve done lick mats and he’s calm while licking them but back to being a menace as soon as he is done. When he bites and nips I get up and walk away but as soon as he is calm and I’m back he’s back to biting. I’ve tried yipping like his littermates. That works on occasion but not every time. I do enforced naps. We met with a trainer last week and have our first session tomorrow. My hands and arms are covered in scratches from his teeth, and I’ve got bruises all over my legs from his nips. I’m at a loss and I am just exhausted and need some encouragement.
