This is fun, and maybe something to discuss more than, like, a pure advocacy piece. A concern some have about the proposed rezoning is the impact multifamily will have on home prices. It turns out we have a bunch of data about this, because we built a lot of multifamily in Oak Park before we effectively outlawed it in the 40's-70's.

If you're a housing nerd, have a look. I don't think it matters one way or the other (maximizing home prices isn't the purpose of the rezoning, though I expect single-family home prices to increase either way) but it's a fun data set to examine. (Thanks to Josh for putting this together).

The VOP board will soon vote to accept the zoning recommendations from Opticos, the next step on a 5+ year plan we've undertaken to modernize our zoning map (and to legalize new housing). We've built a site that breaks down exactly what changes; you can enter your home address and get details for your specific lot and those of your neighbors, or just read background information.
