I made this long ass comment thread about the current situation of every former Dream SMP YouTubers and streamers before on someone else's post who was asking this question. But since that post is now gone and I feel like there will be other people who would ask the same thing and would like to know too. I decided to compile a complete description of everyone's situation here, with also a lot more elaboration included compared to the comment I made before, so here go: The situation of every former Dream SMP creator (9th May 2026)
Note that some words that are in italic are some of my personal opinions, in case you want a neutral stance on some stuff in these descriptions.
I've mostly kept track of the first two groups because they're the most active while everyone else I had to search through their profiles to be updated about them, but yeah, that is practically the situation of every former Dream SMP content creator today.
After a month or so of work, finally completed Lady's portrait on WPlace.live and you can go see it for yourself on the Island of Sodor.
6 years ago, on the 24th April 2020, a new Minecraft survival multiplayer world was created, a Minecraft world featuring newer game additions but no different to the millions of other worlds created before it, a Survival MultiPlayer server that doesn't seem to at first hold any significance or grandeur compared to many that were. The only specialty that this SMP do have though was that it was start by Dream and GeorgeNotFound - the newest faces of Minecraft of the new decade.
6 years ago, everything was very different and difficult compared to today, and those who lived through and understood it, still held it in memory because it seemed to have never been that long ago. In March 2020, a global pandemic was declared by the World Health Organization as the Coronavirus or Covid-19 disease spread across the world, infecting billions and killing millions. As a result, people were forced to stay indoors to contain the virus's spread as strict quarantine brought modern life and society to halt. Despite becoming stuck in their homes and separated from friends and family, people still have the Internet to contact and connect to each other, and as millions more also turned towards the Internet to relieve their boredom, there was then an influx of people looking for online entertainment, especially towards video games and gaming.
The start of 2020 for Minecraft on YouTube was a melting pot of renaissance, nostalgic but also experimental and innovative content. 2019 was the year that Minecraft was brought back from apparent extinction by PewDiePie, who created one of the most successful modern Minecraft survival world series since the times of Minecraft's early 2010s Golden Age - racking up 10+ million after 10+ million views on each of his Minecraft videos. This surge of new viewers and revival of the Minecraft space led to many other Minecraft YouTubers take their chances in having their own slice of the pie, one of them being the new up incoming creator named Dreamwastaken, or in short Dream.
Around this time, Dream was becoming one of the rising new stars of Minecraft. First asserting himself in the Minecraft space through several videos related to PewDiePie's survival world series, he went on to begin creating Minecraft videos but with experimental ideas that gives special twists and turns to the core gameplay, like item drops being random and multiplied, killing each other in a death swap challenge, and all blocks having gravity, but his most famous and successful idea was his Minecraft Manhunt series, where he tries to speedrun and beat Minecraft while his friends try to stop him. Despite not being the first person to think of such an idea, he sure created a formula for it - the rules of the game and video format for it in general - to become extremely engaging and fun to watch. He also had dabbled into Minecraft speedrunning and was quite capable at it too, which combined with the genius he displayed in his Minecraft Manhunt series, made many considered him to be one of the best Minecraft players.
In late April, Dream started a new live stream on Twitch as he enters into a new Minecraft world - created in version 1.16, people who joined the stream thought he was doing another speedrun or practicing to do one, but then George joined the world too as Dream explained that he wasn't speedrunning but rather deciding to play regular Minecraft survival mode. One of the main things Dream and George did on their first day was to explore the new features that update 1.16 has added to Minecraft, that being a complete overhaul of the Nether dimension, the addition of new biomes, structures, mobs, items, etc. Also on their first day, they died a lot, having to regather items and tools every time they try to navigate the Nether, which ultimately ended with Dream dying in the Nether again, ragequitting and ending the first stream on his new multiplayer server.
Besides that, not much else was expected from this little Survival MultiPlayer world afterwards - or so called "Dream Team SMP", but Dream and his friends played and live streamed on the server on their own accord, playing in obscurity, live streaming for a half-interested audience, and the server being practically unknown to most people - due to Dream and or his friends never ever uploading a single piece of footage of it to YouTube, which was done instead mostly by their fans who actually tuned in. Things remained that way for the next 3 months of the server's existence, but in July 2020, everything is about to change, all because of a particular 16 year old British boi.
On 4th July 2020, unimportantly the US's 244th anniversary, TommyInnit joined the Dream Team SMP server. In the past one year's worth of time, Tommy was also another new rising star in the Minecraft scene. Although he didn't achieve as big of a success as Dream, he still made a name for himself through his interaction with other creators and streamers, acting and being that jokingly awkward, annoying and insufferable child everyone talks to and play with, something that Dream caught wind of. Despite having already live streamed on Twitch for 3 hours before this invitation to Dream's Minecraft server - which inconceivably he could've turned down, Tommy still gave it his all, joined the server, put on a show and spark fun funny chaos. His first few minutes on the server though resulted in him getting banished into an unknown land on the server, before banned from it outright, and blocked by Dream on Twitter, before all of it being reversed as he promised to follow the "rules" of the server.
Inviting TommyInnit to the Dream SMP has to be one of the biggest ramifications in the server's history, as in the same month, many more things would occur on the server that will make it go down in history as one of the most impactful and influential events in Minecraft. 3 days after Tommy joined, more people are added, including Tubbo - Tommy's streamer friend. Just the day after, the First Disc War of the Dream SMP was fought with Tommy and Tubbo on one side and Dream on the other, which will rage on for another week or so. 25 days since Tommy joined the Dream SMP - 29th July 2020, he along with WilburSoot, Tubbo and Eret would declare L'Manberg as a newly independent country, which is the beginning of the Dream Team SMP vs L'Manberg War, while the rest is history.
The server as we know it has ended - by this point - 3 years ago, but are some of us still OBSESSED with it? Is it because of the creators part of it? Well duh, they are integral to the server. Is it because of the lore? That only came in quite later and in the early days, people weren't even aware that a story was being written. Is it because of the factions, countries and alliances that the server had produced? The only one of those factions and countries most remembered nowadays is L'Manberg, it was THE SOLE TRUE COUNTRY of the Dream SMP, there are others that came after it, but I would say the significance of the Dream SMP's factions, countries and alliances diminished overtime ever since L'Manberg was wiped off the face of the server. For me, the Dream SMP was the greatest thing to ever happen to Minecraft since its golden age of the early 2010s, pure escapism. It came out of no where during the pandemic but it kept the spirits of me and millions up through its own little charm and entertainment factor. It created careers for many and the changed the lives of many more. It was a SMP of dreams, it is the Dream SMP.
