Finally finished my phoenix!

This took a while and is the hardest thing I've made so far. Pattern from Megan Lapp's book crochet creatures of myth and legend. I'm happy with it and I learnt a lot.

I'm now keen to give it to a friend as they start a 'transformation' of selling their house.

Motivational cormarant?

I love that detail that the bird spotting pack adds to the swiss game. But a cormorant soaring like an eagle in front of Mont Blanc? Come on devs show some restraint!

Sketching Swiss buildings

The chateau is real despite its Disney look. The fish flag is also really the flag of Nyon.

Sketches from my own photos, all done this month except for #4 which was my first full drawing with pen and alcohol markers back in March. I started with the very cheap Ohuhu art pens, then added the Winsor and Newton architecture set followed by the Ohuhu grey scale set.

I'll do English buildings in June.

Oh Hanly had a list of measure words

I've just found that Hanly has a list of measure words, or classifiers. I think it's a new feature in extra modes. This is great, because it was starting to bug me that I'd learn a character and only later realise it is also a measure word.

Maybe that's how learning goes though, you can't do it all at once and finding new uses for a familiar hanzi is very much what my experience is like (at roughly hsk3).

The AI mixed a lake with a tropical sea

Obviously lazy dev efforts again here. The AI image generated a nice swiss lake with a pine tree and distant Alps but hallucinated a tropical sea in place of the shallow water. It's like there's no quality control in these images at all. What next? Catfish in Lac Leman?

A (gasp!) semi derelict Swiss house.

This one was a lot of fun. It's from a favourite spot of mine that often has various graffiti. I've taken my usual liberties in adapting the scene.

This is an old gatehouse to a nearby estate but it now mostly serves as an underpass to the main road behind. I always love the juxtaposition of the cute upper part of the building and the gritty reality below.

Swiss apartments

I saw this gorgeous wisteria one afternoon and luckily had time to pop back at 8 am to catch the light. I like the mundane taking out the rubbish moment I caught.

I think I squashed the building a bit. I was thinking how solid Swiss buildings are.

Plenty of mistakes and learning but I'm happy with my April sketches of Paris (all drawn based on my photos from a short visit).

I'm not sure if I have a style as such or rather that's just my current skill level and limited set of alcohol markers 😂

Which do you prefer and why?

May will focus on Swiss houses.
