Any YA thriller/mystery/horror recommendations?

My favourite author of all time is Megan Lally. She only has 3 books out at the moment and all of which are YA thrillers. I've read two of them. What we did to survive was and still is my favourite book ever.

The only book of Kara Thomas I've read is The Cheerleaders. I'd like to read more from this author I just don't know which. The Cheerleaders felt like too much of a normal mystery to me - but maybe a good one to be a TV series.

The popular authors like Karen M McManus, Holly Jackson and Jennifer Lynn Barnes are great {Except for The Inheritance Games series which was way too riddley but her The Naturals series makes up for it.} But I would like to look at other authors first.

I liked The Coworker by Freida McFadden and have bought 2 more of her books. I'm excited to see what they'll be like.

Other ones I liked was Lets split up - Bill Wood, This book kills - Ravena Guron, Keep your friends close - Cynthia Murphy.

Ones I didn't really like was Tag you're dead - Kathryn Foxfield and This Lie Will Kill You - Chelsea Pitcher and of course We Were Liars - E. Lockheart.

I don't want supernatural {unless it's like the main character can see ghosts of dead people and nothing else. Cuz that sounds kind of cool}

I am certainly not having sci-fi or magic.

I recently order How to Survive a Horror Movie - Scarlett Dunmore, Tastes Like Cndy - Jessica Lacey and The Dare - Natasha Preston.

I love fast paced with shocking twists. And it has to be YA, or else Freida McFadden {Idk why she's listed as adult in some places}

Hot take on a Freida McFadden book and how does Freida McFadden release her books so fast? Your opinion on Freida McFadden?

I've got a hot take on a Freida McFadden book. Everyone, at least on Goodreads anyway, seems to hate The Coworker. I loved it! I read it about a month back now but I still remember it so clearly!

I loved the setting of it and the entire plot and the plot twist was jaw dropping and the intensity towards the end was unreal. I don't know how she did it but there was something compelling me to turn page after page. I know the word turtle was said about 556 times and there was repetitiveness with what Natalie was saying or thinking, but everything else was amazing and those are only tiny problems! The writing was plain easy to read.

I just bought two other Freida McFadden books, Never Lie and Ward D. Lots of people say Never Lie has plot holes and the twist makes no sense. I'll be the judge of that. I will be writing a review about both the books once I read them which I'll post on this community and some other ones.

Last but not least, how does Freida McFadden release books so quickly? She's been doing this 13 years and has 30 books out. Yes, some of them are the really small ones she does but that's only 2 or 3 of them. She releases new ones like every couple of months. Lots of people think she is using AI. There is a chance considering not only to quickness of publishing but also the plot holes in some of the books. My theory is that she may use AI to help her write it, but not fully.

That's all I have for now! Please tell me; Do you like her books? If so, which ones?

Book review! Six must die - Victoria Wlosok

This is a YA {Young Adult} mystery thriller book, which is literally the only genre I read so I'm very picky about this.

There wasn't that much character development in most of these characters and there was a bit of repetitiveness in the thoughts of our main character, lots of people hate when that happens in thrillers, but I don't understand why they don't like it. If you were in these situations, you would certainly be denying things or processing things again and again in your head.

I thought through like the start of the middle bits of the book that it was getting boring and nothing was happening.

*Extra thoughts:* I liked the plot twist but I wasn't too invested in the story to care all that much.

*The plot:* Seven players entered. Only six walked out. On the one year anniversary of her best friends death in an escape room fire, Steffi receives an ominous yet irresistible invitation t.o a brand new escape room in her small town in rural Tennessee.

With no memory of what happened on the night she lost everything and desperate to piece together what happened, she accepts. But when she is reunited with her five ex - friends, Steffi quickly realises everyone has there own reasons for playing the game. And the more they kept her in the dark, the more she wonders if it's guilt.

As tensions rise and the players are picked off one by one, Steffi has just one hour to uncover their secrets or, this time, no one will escape.

My overall rating: 3.27 out of 5 stars.

Watch out for other books I'll be reviewing:

All In- Jennifer Lynn Barnes {And the overall series}

Ward D - Freida McFadden

How to survive a horror movie - Scarlett Dunmore

The Dare - Natasha Preston

Tastes like candy - Jessica Lacey

Never lie - Freida McFadden

Book review: Keep your friends close - Cynthia Murphy. Omg!

Cynthia Murphy has done it again!

This is a YA (Young Adult) thriller/mystery book.

I said in my last review of Cynthia Murphys book The Midnight Game that since it was supernatural I didn't like it as much.

This is completely supernatural free! Absolutely amazing and can't wait to read more of her books!

The only reason it's not 5 stars is because of the motive of who did it. It was a shock I was not expecting though and it was fast paced which is everything I would ask for!

The only reason you may not like it is because its boarding school setting and there is societies but I must say that isn't my cup of tea either and I still really enjoyed it. It didn't really make it feel as though we were in school as much as the average boarding school book.

Theres a lot of friendship and relationship betrayal but not too much which I love.

I also really liked how it wasn't too descriptive but just the right amount.

My age rating thoughts: 12 and up.

Overall I would really recommend it!

4.5 stars out of 5!

Keep your eyes peeled! The next books I will be reading and reviewing are:

Six must die - Victoria Wlosok

All in - Jennifer Lynn Barnes (and overall thoughts on series)

The dare - Natasha Preston

Tastes like candy - Jessica Lacey

How to survive a horror movie - Scarlett Dunmore

I will also be making posts on book reccommendations if you like horror/crime/thriller book genre.

The worst book you ever read?

I read lots of YA thrillers, even when they are bad they are usually manageable so I haven't came across anything extraordinarily bad. If I had to say, I'd say We were liars - E. Lockheart. Maybe it just wasn't down my murder alley, but I did not understand the hype of it either, and the hype made me start the book with high expectations.

Review: Lets split up - Bill Wood. Omg!

Overall star rating: 4.6 stars.

On goodreads there was so much bad reviews and I just cannot understand why. I mean, sure, maybe some things did need improvement, but it was such a good book!

The plot: A new girl comes to the school, and the reason she has come is definitely a rehearsed lie. However, Amber, Cam and Jonesy bring her into the friend group. And then, 2 people in the school are announced dead. They died in Carringwood Manor and lots of people think it is a ghost that the town has speculated for years. The friend group investigate. Go into Carringwood Manor, find clues, chase the clues etc. And then, one of then gets badly hurt, from whatever or whoever the killer is.

Improvements needed: I feel like scarier things could have happened when they went to investigate inside the house, because obviously 2 people died in there recently. There is other things like that, that could've been able to make the overall story and reading experience better.

Overall: It is great for a calming night time read with danger and clues. The author was quite spot on with it being scooby doo themed just a bit scarier. It was great. Loved it. Really recommend.

4.6 out of 5 stars!

How did I hate AGGGTM yet it still made me cry?

I read the first book and the third book, once I realised I picked up the 3rd book in the series instead of the 2nd I didn't go back. Did make me confused of the trauma Pip had in the 3rd book as I thought it was the 2nd book until after I finished it.

The mystery of the first book was good don't get me wrong but it didn't suck me in and I didn't care enough of whodunnit. The 3rd book the only good things were the parts when something was badly wrong, as Holly Jackson is fantastic at making me genuinely nervous in those moments, but it was dragging a lot and took me forever to read. At the last maybe 20 pages or less of the 3rd book, I was bawling my eyes out. Anyone else?

I need help finding an extra genre!

I am ALL into YA thrillers/mystery/horror/suspense but sometimes I want a refresh where I just read a book that is completely different. I was thinking one of those love ones like love hypothesis or better than the movies, or I could go for a sad one like If he had been with me. Or I could go down another completely different lane. I don't know what to try and if it would be safer and better to just stick to what I know I like. I like page turners, fast paced with shocking twists. It has to be YA.

Please help me. What other genre should I try or should I just not bother? If you have any recommendations of genres or specific books, please tell me!

Which one should I read next and any more recs?

Which one of these should I read next?

Yes, this is an AI generated image that I generated because I wasn't feeling like taking a pic.

Anyway, these are the books I bought, certainly not what I wanted. I couldn't find ANY of the books I wanted, at the shop today.

The books I actually wanted:

No place left to hide - Megan Lally {the last book of Megan Lallys that I need to buy now}

I killed Zoe Spanos - Kit Frick

Sadie - Courtney Summers

That weekend - Kara Thomas {Loved the cheerleaders by her}

There's someone inside your house - Stephanie Perkins

The Ivies - Alexa Donne

Dangerous girls - Abigail Haas

Five total strangers - Natalie D. Richards

None shall sleep - Ellie Marney

I got lots of suggestions on the recent Ya thriller suggestions post I made which I am extremely thankful for. I'll now have lots of books to go through to see if they can go on my 'immediate TBR' or my 'backlist TBR' Yes, that's what I call them!

Also, just finished reading The Midnight Game - Cynthia Murphy and made a review post somewhere about it. I will make a review post about whatever book I read next! This is really encouraging me to keep reading aswell lol.

Did any of these books stand out to you? And, Any more suggestions? I like fast paced, page turner Young Adult {YA} thrillers/suspense/mystery/horror with a shocking plot twist.

What are your least favourite or most overrated books and why?

What are the books you think are so overrated and why? I'd love to here what you think! I'm a YA mystery girl and I find that there isn't much that I would consider bad or overrated. Love to know what books you dispise and want to AVOID for the rest of your life and the reason why!

Book Review: The Midnight Game - Cynthia Murphy YA thriller

Just wanted to review this book that stood out to me:

I'd never read any of this authors books before and wasn't expecting it to be good. I loved it. The only reason one may not love this is because it's extremely supernatural and that certainly isn't everyones cup of tea. i'm not a fan of supernatural at all though and I still liked it!

It was very fast paced. And after every chapter, which was 6 pages on average, there was text messages and deddit threads {their version of reddit for supernatural rituals} and things like that which also made me want to keep reading until 3 am. I loved the ending when everything clicked because I was wondering for a while what some of the text messages and deddit threads had to do with anything.

For the really big things that were going on, it seemed as if they were happening quite quickly. Some people love that as they feel that it's not dragging out and it's the reality of a situation. Me, not so much. I definitely liked the whole premise of the book aswell as the descriptive words. She's definitely a good author. I do believe many of her other books that I'll read in the future will be 5 stars.

Overall, loved this book. Really recommend. 4 stars.

Any books you'd like me to read and review or think I might like? Did you like any Cynthia Murphy books you read if you have read any?

Is Natasha Preston Good?

Natasha Preston has written many things. The ones catching my eye are The Dare and The Cabin. However, I've heard that she does do big cliffhangers at the end of her books and there's no series to go with it. Are the cliffhangers really bad where absolutely nothing is cleared up? Or are the cliffhangers manageable and tie up the mystery almost fully? Please let me know because I'm thinking of getting one of her books.

Suggest me a YA thriller

Please recommend me a good YA thriller/mystery/horror/suspense. Loved What we did to Survive by Megan Lally and I like The cheerleaders by Kara Thomas. The Naturals- Jennifer Lynn Barnes was good too. I didn't like The Inheritance Games - too riddly. I only liked the first book of one of us is lying. I hated this lie will kill you and AGGGTM as they didn't suck me in but Holly Jackson overall is a good writer. Looking to get Sadie even though it's much different to what I usually read. I think Ravena Guron and Natasha Preston might be good. And I'm reading a Cynthia Murphy book and loving it but it is quite supernatural for my liking. It's The Midnight Game. I want page turner books with twists that'll have my jaw dropped on the floor. I like a subplot of romance but only if it's done right. Like how it was done in Megan Lallys book that I recommended at the beginning but I don't need a subplot of romance and it shouldn't be taking away from the thriller feel. Any suggestions?
