Worried about having to be off work and missing a meeting

Hi all,

I guess I need a bit of reassurance that the following situation is fine. Or if it is not, let me know …

I have this corporate job in a field from which I want to have a career. Have been here two years and now into my 3rd year. I also run a business on a side but that is unrelated to work, and it is there poorly for money reasons. I am incredibly afraid it will sabotage my career for no reason just that career is more important. But now we have an emergency which I have to attend to and miss half a day of work for it. Including a team meeting. It is a larger team meeting on which we present including me. It’s first time I had to do such a thing. And I hate it. Is it okay if a call of due to personal reasons? I’m so worried about it …

Talent days

Hi all,

I couldn’t find a lot on it so I was wondering if any of you ever heard of world bank talent days? I got an invite to one and according to the description it is hosted along with my country’s ministry. It all looks legit, the ministry posted it on their official LinkedIn, you don’t pay anything for it, the emails I got all are from worldbank.org address etc. I just couldn’t find much on it online so I was wondering if anyone heard of such a thing, knows what to expect etc.

Hi all,

I recently got a weird comment from my manager. We were discussing some future plans within the company. And then she off hand added a statement of: if you will still be here …. Which of course made me panic a bit. I’m new ish. Been here for almost two years, and I like this job. Not sure what to do

should I ask her about the comment or maybe ask her what I can improve on etc?

My mom also suggests asking my other colleague at work if she heard anything (in terms of lay offs). With the reasoning that even if it gets back to manager, she will see that I care so there is no bad outcome here. Would that be a good option?

Overall, I just got a good review in February. No bad comments about my work. I’m being given more work, future plans were discussed, I’m being send on business trips to meet colleagues etc. Nothing that would flag to me it’s a personal firing. Makes me more of lay offs as I know the company just lost a big client … if it helps I’m in Europe so I have 3 month notice period.
