Failed M1. How to fix my approach?

I failed a course and have to repeat the entire my first year. Our curriculum is purely pre-clinical/foundational right now, anatomy, physiology, histology, embryology, etc., and the exams are MCQ testing pure recall.

We have an exam every two weeks. I used the same shared Anki decks as everyone else and did my reviews religiously: 500–600 cards a day, ramping up to 1,000–1,100 the week of an exam. Despite that, my grades stayed below average all year (I averaged a B- while the class average was a B+).

With exams every two weeks, there isn't enough time to mature cards properly. I’ve realized I’m memorizing card patterns rather than actually understanding the underlying concepts. Standard USMLE-style Qbanks wouldn't be helpful either since our questions aren't clinical vignettes.

Any advice on how to fix my study method? If I fail another course, I’ll be dismissed from Medical school.

Thanks.

Looking for MedSchool + FAT LOSS partner

Maybe a little bit weird, but we all know how hard med school is and how it can make losing weight (as opposed to gaining it 😅) challenging. I am starting MS1 in late August and am grinding weight loss at the same time, so I am looking for a partner who has the same objectives and wants to keep each other accountable. EST timezone. Dm if interested

Merci !

Getting married while in Medical School ?

Assalamu Alaykom,

I'm a 28 years old men, from Canada (British Columbia). After a career change, I just started Medical School (First year). For context and for those who don't know, medical school is 4 years, where you are unpaid, and then there's residency, that is 2 to 6 years generally, where you are paid around the median salary in BC. I have a scholarships that covers tuition + give me around 10k per year. I can't work while in Medical School. I live with my parents.

Not proud to say this, but just before Medical School I was in a haram relationship. She was willing to stay with me while in Medical School, but not getting married. I left this Haram relationship for the sake of Allah. AlHamdulillah, I am in a much better position religiously speaking now and would never consider being in a haram relationship or dating etc. Problem is, as a 28 years old, most of my friends are getting married and I feel lonely. I have so much love to give and would really want to find a woman and get married. I trust myself in staying out from Haram even if I don't marry, so that's not the reason I want to get married. Also, as I want to avoid haram, I don't plan to getting to know someone in a Haram way and fall in love, I want to be Halal from the beginning, involving the wali and getting married as soon as possible.

I know it's halal, but would it be realistic to get married while in Medical school ? For example, to someone that is also a student now ? Perhaps each person would stay with their parent until residency ? If you were a father would you accept this for you daughter ? Any experience in this ?

Jazakom Allah Kheyran
