Issue with my daughters therapist.
My 12 year old autistic daughter has increasing anxiety, and also won’t leave the house without sunglasses and fedora at the moment. She also has a rather theatrical and vintage style. We tried starting with a therapist, and after 3 sessions, we talked about how my daughter had been bullied a lot recently, and the therapist said (with my daughter present), “well, when she dress up like that, it invites the attention and bullying”. I could see my daughters face fell, she didn’t say anything and she started fidgeting with buttoning up her jacket. Am I wrong for finding that offensive? I don’t feel good about having my daughter go to that therapist anymore and want to fire her from our schedule. A therapist blaming bullying on a vulnerable kid, rather than the actual bullies chosing to bully, seems not right to me. My daughter isn’t hurting anyone from the way she likes to dress. :/
