CDJ emulator update: 8 supported decks, real-time NXS2
Some time ago I posted the CDJ-2000NXS2 emulator here: the deck's original firmware running in QEMU, waveform moving, audio playing. A lot has happened since, so here's an update.
The NXS2 runs in real time now. Playback used to fall behind and stutter, now it keeps real time properly, also with two decks linked over Pro DJ Link.
More players. The same emulator now boots seven older players as well, each on its own original firmware: CDJ-2000, CDJ-2000NXS, CDJ-900, CDJ-900NXS, XDJ-1000, XDJ-1000MK2 and XDJ-700. They're experimental. The CDJ-2000, CDJ-2000NXS and XDJ-1000 already play in real time with sound, the others load and play tracks but still run below real time. I'm working on getting them all up to speed and running in real time with audio, will take some time. The README has a table of what works on each player.
Since this opens the doors for easy modification, I've been patching it. There are 6 mods so far:
- 3-band waveform (CDJ-3000 style colours)
- phrase band on the overview
- Ableton Link
- TCNet (ShowKontrol, Resolume, lighting desks)
- OSC output
- MIDI clock over the rear USB port
The mods can also be written into a .UPD for a real deck. I haven't tried that on real hardware yet, so do so at your own risk.
No Pioneer firmware is included: setup asks for your own update file and builds everything from that. Runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
