Tempo range adjustment

Tempo range adjustment

Hi everyone, I’m new to dj and just started playing around with it. I got the FLX4 with the rekordbox and need to adjust the tempo range to fit my tracks. I have the values of 6, 10, 16, and wide. 16 is too narrow and wide is way too imprecise, it’s impossible for me to hit the bpm. As you can see in the picture pioneer says it’s possible to set other ranges like 20 or 50 but I can’t figure out how. Please help a newbie🙏

Has anyone had any experience with this case ?

The pioneer djc b2 soft case for the ddj 800 , seems like a super tight fit like it’ll smush the knobs or the jog wheels. Should I trim some off or will my controller be okay ?

Serious Issues With PLX-CRSS12 and rekordbox Workflow

Hello,

I am writing to you because I am once again extremely disappointed with my experience with the PLX-CRSS12 and the rekordbox workflow.

The hardware itself is excellent, but the software integration with rekordbox currently causes serious problems in real DJ situations.

Here are the main issues we are experiencing:

The tempo slider only updates the BPM while the deck is playing.

The tone freezes or becomes unresponsive during rapid tempo movements.

The response of the turntable in internal mode is inconsistent and unreliable.

The latency of the motorized turntable in rekordbox is noticeably worse compared to Serato.

The transport lock in DVS Relative mode seems broken.

Sync status sometimes remains active even after disabling Sync and Master even after reset

Tempo

BPM marking remains orange on both decks until rekordbox is restarted or manually restarted from the software screen

Tempo behavior and pitch response become unstable after using sync.

The overall DVS workflow with PLX-CRSS12 seems unstable and unfinished in rekordbox.

We have already tested:

different buffer sizes

firmware updates

latest version of rekordbox

direct USB connections

disabling Master Tempo, Sync, Quantize and other processing features

The problems still remain.

Do any of you encounter such problems.

It only works in internal mode but there I manage to map only the jog everything else accepts mapping and works perfectly in relative mode is TRAGIC....

Thank you.

Opus Quad Internal Recording is Quiet

Hey all,

I've been doing a lot of recording on the OQ lately, and it works great. However, the resulting audio file is very quiet. I have to mix through my headphones as I'm in a small house, so the main is turned all the way down. I'm not sure where the recording volume is set? Does it reflect the output on the channel faders? I mix with the trim set to the point that the channel output hits 0 when fully open. Will recording volume increase if I bump the trim?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

FLX-10 San Diego, CA

Hey there! Upgraded to an AZ about 1.5 years ago and it’s been sitting in my closet. Moving back to Colorado and don’t have space for it to come home.

Looking for $900 USD, vastly prefer a local. It was used for about 6 months so has classic scuffs from usage but nothing majorly cosmetic and works great.

PayPal G&S and Venmo G&S accepted.

Selling xdj az

Hey guys I’m going to be listing my az on Facebook marketplace I thought I’d offer to my Reddit peeps first.

Really good condition I’ve had it since october last year after upgrading from the XZ. It’s been kept in a case whenever it was not in use. However it’s time to upgrade to CDJS. I have the magma case which is good for carrying in a fairly smaller form factor.

Looking for $3250 comes with the case at that price. I did some research on pricing & I feel it’s a good deal. Cash /zelle only located in socal. Willing to ship but completely at buyers expense.

XDJ-XZ crack from shipping

Hey guys, just bought a used XDJ-XZ and it shipped cracked on one side.

Does anyone know how much it would be to repair something like this? I’ve called multiple repair shops and they won’t give me a quote without opening it up.

What are your thoughts? Seller is offering a partial refund, what would be a good number?

Thanks

EDIT: purchased used* XZ from a seller on reverb. Purchased for $2000, offered a 40% refund.

USB 1 port is iffy but everything else seems functional!

CDJ2000nxs looping issue

I’ve notice recently when I’m looping a track that how soon/late I loop the track will dramatically throw its beat matching with other tracks. The bpm stays the same and the grid is quantized, so I’m not sure why it’s throwing itself off. A quick nudge will fix it, but it’s super annoying to loop an outgoing track and immediately hear a clash as it falls out of sync, any advice or input?

headroom v2.0 — Sort Playlists by Camelot Key + BPM for CDJ

Hey everyone,

A while back I posted headroom here — a CLI tool that simulates Rekordbox's Auto Gain and bakes the gain into the file so CDJs don't lose it on USB. Thanks for the feedback on that thread — v2.0 is out, and it adds something I kept wishing for in Rekordbox itself.

The Problem (again)

Rekordbox has a lot of features that live entirely inside the laptop app. Auto Gain was the original one. The other one that always bites me is sort order: I want a playlist sorted by Camelot Key, then BPM ascending, so I can stage a harmonic warmup set.

Rekordbox (and the CDJ-3000 / XDJ gear) lets me sort by Key or BPM as a single column — but not by Key then BPM as a compound sort. And even that single-column sort only changes the on-screen display: USB export uses the playlist's stored order, so any reshuffling you did on screen evaporates the moment it hits the CDJ.

Same pattern as Auto Gain: the software-only feature doesn't follow the music to the deck.

The Solution

v2.0 adds a new headroom rbsort subcommand ←New💖

  1. Reads your collection.xml (Rekordbox: File > Export Collection in xml format)
  2. Sorts each playlist by Camelot Key (1A → 12B), then BPM ascending
  3. Writes the sorted copies into a new Sorted (Key+BPM)/ folder appended to the same XML
  4. Leaves originals untouched

You re-import the XML via Preferences > Advanced > Database > rekordbox xml > Imported Library, drag the sorted playlists into your main library, and export to USB. The CDJ now plays the set in Key+BPM order — no on-deck reshuffling.

Run it on a single playlist, a nested folder, or just point it at the XML and it'll sort every TrackID-referenced playlist in one pass. No ffmpeg required for this subcommand — pure XML in/out.

Setup note

You need Rekordbox key display set to Alphanumeric (1A..12B): Preferences > View > Key display format > Alphanumeric. Anything still showing in Am / C# notation gets sorted last.

Loudness side (the original feature)

Still here, behavior unchanged. Quick recap of what landed since the original post:

  • Uniform True Peak ceiling at -0.5 dBTP by default — the most aggressive value AES TD1008 §7B sanctions for a delivery limiter. Overridable via --tp-target.
  • Lossless AAC/M4A gain in addition to MP3 (1.5 dB steps, via the bundled mp3rgain library)
  • Scriptable CLI flags so you can run it from a pipeline without the interactive prompts

Installation

macOS (Homebrew):

brew install M-Igashi/tap/headroom

Windows (winget):

winget install M-Igashi.headroom

Arch Linux (AUR): yay -S headroom-bin Cargo: cargo install headroom

Links

Feedback and PRs welcome as always 🙏

DDJ 1000 or XDJ RX

Wanna upgrade and get some new decks, looking to spend between 600-800 pounds and a found some DDJ 1000s and XDJ-RXs within this range. I feel like they’d both be a pretty good option for where I’m at, just not sure which is the better option long term. I have used the XDJ-RXs a fair bit as my friend has them and I really like the feel of them, not having the laptop there is always nice. Haven’t used the DDJ 1000s but I hear they have more of a professional CDJ feel than the XDJ-RXs, especially in the jog wheels and having the 4 channels. I’m just using this for mixing in my room, won’t be using it for gigs. What do you guys think will hold up long term?

K-Salaam Interviews Legendary Jamaican Music Producer Clive Chin

Snippet from my interview w/ legendary Jamaican Music Producer Clive Chin. Clive Chin produced the first ever Dub record in history, making him a true pioneer of the art form.
Here he talks about his engineer and production partner Errol
"ET" Thompson, who invented the idea of bringing the echos and delays that the DJs and Sound Systems were doing out in the park, and putting them on a record, which became one of the main audio staples of Dub Music.
This video was shot by Julian Rodriguez, and the editing was done by Justin Lance.
(I'm going to post the full interview one day, but as for now I'm getting major copyright issues, being that we used music in the interview. Still working this out.)
Enjoy this piece of music history.

Does anyone have an Apple Magic Trackpad that they use?

I was thinking of getting one to attach my Flx4 controller as a substitute to a mouse and keyboard for my laptop. If you have used one in this capacity, please let me know whether or not it helped.

Portable, rechargeable wired speakers to use with Omnis Duo?

I'm considering the Omnis Duo simply because it's easily portable and rechargeable so I can take it out into the woods or the beach etc. But I would need a speaker(s) that's also portable and rechargeable. Problem is I'm only finding bluetooth and not ones with line ins, which I'll need for the OD.

So I'm coming here to ask if anyone knows of any.

Thanks.

DDJ-SX2 or DDJ-FLX6 which choice suits better a beginner dj?

I am buying my first dj controller and i stumbled upon the opportunity to buy a well-preserved DDJ-SX2 for the same price of a also used DDJ-FLX6. I know that flx6 is newer and have new resources and tools, but the fact that the SX2 can be a vynil mixer (i aim to buy 2 vinyl players soon) and it has a better professional structure.
So i am between buying flx6 (newer fresher equipment) and later buying mixer and turntables OR buying a DDJ-SX2 from a reliable source that can be a "first mixer" for my soon owned turntables?

HELP!

RX-3 vs FLX-10 — standalone vs controller/laptop

I’m about to purchase one of these in the next few days. Old vinyl DJ since the 90’s who’s been slowly learning the DJ controller digital world the past year. I’ve seen a few posts on this comparison, but nothing new or active. So this post is looking for input for myself, and also just to share what I’ve learned and realized, because there doesn’t seem to be a lot of granular info in one place on the tradeoffs between these two units.

Disclaimer: Please correct me if I got something wrong!

So…. I’ve been set on buying a FLX-10 for months now. That was until yesterday, when I played around with my friend’s RX-3. I’ve spent a decent amount of time on the AZ & on CDJs and it’s just a different experience playing on a standalone versus laptop/controller. It just works for me. But the AZ has been a bit outta my price range for a home setup and a CDJ setup is way too much for now, so I had decided on the FLX-10.

Honestly, the RX-3 just wasn’t on my radar; I think I wrote it off early on because it was only 2-channels and thought I’d get more bang for my buck with a controller since I already had a spare MacBook Pro that runs Rekordbox just fine. And with the FLX-10 I’d get stems buttons. (Even though they’re sub-par on Rekordbox, I had hope that they’d keep getting better with updates).

So now, once my head was thinking about a standalone for around 2K, I realized that I played more when I was around standalones and that the simple act of connecting the laptop or closing work apps… switching into funtime let’s play music mode… was a barrier for me. Sounds incredibly lazy, but I know a lot of people experience this. There’s nothing like turning the power on, loading a track and be playing within a few moments.

Here was the big revelation for me though… since the RX-3 can be used in HID mode (Rekordbox performance mode), I can use that anytime and be laptop DJing with the RX-3 as my controller. Which is exactly what I’d be doing with the FLX-10! So I’m still trying to figure out if there’s anything I’m missing because for my purposes it seems like the best of both worlds.

In the past 24 hours, I’ve now been trying to figure out why not to get the RX-3. My mind has changed that quickly after remembering how much I like standalones and realizing that my buddy (who used to lug around CDjs & a Xone mixer) loves his RX-3.

So playing devil’s advocate with myself, I’m trying to learn about RX-3’s limitations, but you’ve gotta really piece together info to get a good deep dive look at the tradeoffs between these two units. Here’s my issues & thoughts on the RX-3…

- *No stems in standalone mode:* True, but… stems are available in Rekordbox software HID mode, which is where I’d be with FLX-10 anyway; laptop DJ’ing with stems. The stems buttons have to be mapped to the pads on the RX-3 instead of having dedicated buttons like on FLX-10. I can live with that I think.
- *No key shifting in standalone mode:* But… again, available in HID mode if I wanna play with that. Same place as I’d be with FLX-10; controller/laptop
- *Only 2-channels:* Once I really thought about it, I haven’t seriously used more than 2-channels at once in over 20 years. And that was with 2 turntables and iPods/laptops with iTunes/CD mixers, and not playing the kind of beatmatching dance music I’m playing nowadays. I can still throw vinyl in my mix on the 2-channel RX-3 (or anything else line level or aux) with the flip of a switch. I just can’t play 3 sources at once in standalone mode. I can live with that.
- Also, I can actually plug in 2 phonos, a line level media player, an out from my work desk laptop, a spare laptop dedicated to use for HID mode, a 3.5mm tail to have hanging out for a friends phone and still have a spare RCA aux available… all into this 2-channel mixer. That’s 7 additional inputs, 9 inputs total. For a home setup, I can have everything plugged in and ready to go and access them with the flick of a switch on the RX-3. (Or just changing the mode in the case of HID mode)
- *You can’t isolate the Beat FX to specific frequency bands (High, Mid, Low):* this plain old sucks, but frankly I haven’t done this much; it’s not a trick in my bag yet and I’ve done something similar with the channel EQs. I’ll live with it for a unit that’s half the price. Unless I spring for the AZ or a full CDJ setup, I’m gonna have to accept some tradeoffs.

What is really disappointing to me that I can’t get a straight answer on is the limitation on columns in the RX-3 display. It seems insane that this 10”+ screen can’t display track, artist, bpm & key at the same time.

This feels like a ‘fuck you pay more’ from Pioneer, or a drastic oversight. But it sounds like people have been bitching and begging for this since it came out. Also seems like it’d be fixable in a firmware update, but I read someone say that it was a processing limitation? That seems strange when it’s just metadata that’s been analyzed already. AFAIK, best you can do on the main screen is get key/bpm and your choice of either track or artist… but not both. And that takes analyzing and exporting your tracks from RB a certain way, making sure settings are right, so the info is formatted properly on your USB to display 3 out of 4 essential columns on the RX-3’s giant screen.

I would love for someone to tell me I’m wrong on this… please. Because what kind of fuckery is that on a 10” screen?

But again… this track info is all available in HID mode. And since I have a spare laptop that I can leave hooked into my setup, maybe I can use my backup usb stick in the laptop just for display purposes if I need a cleaner display of key/related keys for reference. I’d have to see how practical that’d be or how much I’d really need that workaround.

I know I’ve rambled on, but I’ve been looking for this info for hours upon hours and it’s not all in one place anywhere, unbelievably. Hopefully it helps someone else. And I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts to help me finalize whether or not to completely switch gears… from being dead set on a FLX-10 for the past 3 months… to the past 24 hours of the revelation that I’d prefer a standalone and I can get used mint RX-3 for not much more and it’d do most of what I *want* it to do and everything I *need* it to do.
