iPad companion app for old CDJs

It’s crazy how an iPad can make old CDJs look new again :).

Stay tuned for more details soon.

Stems on XDJ-AZ, CDJ 3000, etc..

Now that several people have proven it’s possible, how do you think AT will react ?

Have some of you tried it?

Also, given stems need to be prepared before the gig, and are not created on device, do you think it’s convenient enough to be used ?

AirPods Pro 2 seal

I am using AirPods Pro 2 (and AirPods Pro before that) for the last 5 years and every time I run the hearing test I am getting feedback that the seal of my AirPods is not sufficient.

I am very satisfied overall with the AirPods. I have lots of audiophile equipment and while the AirPods can’t compete, I find them more than sufficient for every day track digging (I’m a DJ) or casual listening. And nothing compares with them in terms of convenience/portability/conference call use.

I tried all sizes of eartips, including 3rd party foam ones but the seal is never sufficient.

I’d like to know if I’m missing an ever better sound response, especially on bass. I find the bass relatively okay, of course not in the same league than my full size headphones but still quite okay. I notice more bass when I push the AirPods inside my ears but of course I can’t do this all the time.

And lastly any advice on how to create the perfect seal. Thanks!

CDJ1500X + V5

I’ve just tried the DJMV5 with a pair of CDJ1500X at the AlphaTheta studio in Singapore and I really like this compact setup.

It feels professional, the CDJs are sturdy, the screen is great, even the jog wheels are fine (I thought they would be too small but the size is ok and they’re precise). I had the same feeling of precision than the first time I used CDJ3000 years ago, definitely above a FLX10 or RX3, probably even better than an AZ.

Sound quality of the V5 is amazing (I know this from trying the V10 on a top notch sound system, not from the AT studio..).

Also, I love the fact the V5 is natively supported by Djay Pro on iOS. I plugged my iPhone on the V5 USB-C port and Djay Pro immediately recognized it, each of the 3 V5 channels were assigned to the individual channels in Djay Pro (external mixer configuration). It means you can get a 2+2 setup (2 CDJs + 2 or even 3 in iOS - however you need a controller to control djay pro but a small Traktor X1 or DDJ XP2 can do that very well, see my other posts).

Of course this setup costs approximately twice the price of an AZ, so it’d better be good.. if I had no budget constraints I would probably go for this rather than CDJ3000X (too big) and A9 (too big and I prefer the V5).

Last iteration of my portable setup

Continuing to explore options for a portable setup. I replaced by Traktor X1 mk3 for a less compact but much more ergonomic DDJ XP2, full supported by djay pro on my venerable IPad Pro 2018.

I absolutely love it, it fits in a backpack and there’s almost nothing I can’t do except using jog wheels :).

The Z1 mk2 has a really good quality, I played with it on a 3000w sound system last weekend and it sounded amazing.

Same audio quality than M21 with portable DAC for iPhone

I have a M21 and really like the audio quality, but I find the user interface to be sub par (screen size, brightness, android, etc..) vs my iPhone.

Also, I find the player quite bulky.

I wonder if there’s a portable DAC that would give a similar audio quality than the M21 ?

I am using a Meze Strada.

Thanks!
