Newbie here with my budget setup. Any thoughts?

Newbie here with my budget setup. Any thoughts?

I got the SanDisk Clip Jam for $30 bucks, and the Sony MDR7506 for $40, both on Ebay. Let me know what you all think. I don't have much experience with high quality headphones, but these feel really good to me. I don't really care for how bulky they are, and the really long cord, I'm on the lookout for a smaller, more lightweight pair that has about the same quality.

Sony nw-wm1zm2 gold as my first dap as a newbie need help

Hi,

So I just purchased the topmost expensive dac out there since i am a Sony fan as well loved growing my childhood with mp3s, Sony phones, bravia screens, playstaion portable (psp) etc so as I sound lover as well I decided to bring my childhood back by purchasing the gold mp3 (at least that's what a layman like me would call it), I haven't received the device yet as I have imported from Japan should take couple of weeks, so I am little clueless and little shocked and wanted to confirm that I will get no benefit in my current bluetooth earbuds Sennheiser momentum tws4 or any other Bluetooth headphones which I use in gym. Is it only for wired headphones the advantage I will get? if it is true please let me know I might cancel the order because I can't use wired headphones in the gym it's really hard, if there are any iems that can give me advantage over my sony xperia 1 viii smartphone please let me know otherwise it's just a waste of money for me and also do let me even if there will be slight of advantage I might be get out of it as a sony fan i might still keep it

Hiby M500 or something else for FLAC files and Spotify downloads?

For my first DAP, I'm looking for something to play my ripped CDs, stream/download Spotify, and have great battery life. I'm in the United States.

The M500 has ~25hrs of playback.

The M21 seems to be around ~12-15hrs of playback.

As a first time DAP owner, both seem good, but the M500 is $30 cheaper with longer battery life. So, I'm leaning towards that. Also, the Miku theme doesn't matter to me.

Are there any better options?

Is a DAP something for me?

Hi, I’m new here. It was a long time ago when I ditched my iPod(s) and went on only streaming music on Spotify.

Still got a working iPod Classic. With some old tunes from my high school time on there. So many memories!
Love all the old school tech, so a DAP sounds pretty good :)

But, I don’t have an updated offline music library anymore. Just a whole bunch of playlists on Spotify… And I don’t really want to quit Spotify either. Just want a dedicated music listening device!

Music really helps me focus, my phone does not…

So, I’ve looked through a dozen posts on here. Could not find an answer to my specific question. Here goes,

Would it make sense to buy a DAP and just use it for listening to downloaded lossless songs on Spotify. No streaming, just using it offline?
And then, if I like the separate music device, maybe start building an offline library again for later on.

This idea sounds good in my mind, would love to hear your opinion :)

Hardware tips are also very welcome,
DAP: was looking at the Fiio M21.
IEMS: no clue, something beginner but good, middle grounds I guess.

Thanks!

Tempotec V3 Blaze, Hiby R3 Pro II, Fiio JM21, Hidizs AP80 Pro Max

Hello, I've previously made a post requesting help finding my first DAP. After some recommendations and a lot of research, i narrowed down my options to 4 possible players that cover the things i need. One thing I find conflicting information about is battery life. Of the following 4 options which would you recommend in terms of sound and battery life? I know the Fiio is the only android option but im not very particular about android especially if the Hiby OS is solid enough.

- Tempotec V3 Blaze (around $140 on Alix)

- Hiby R3 Pro II (Around $180 on Alix)

- Fiio JM21 (around $180 for 3/32 or $220 for 4/64 on amazon)

- Hidizs AP80 Pro Max (Around $170 on Alix)

I would really appreciate some help getting a new DAP

I've been researching DAP's the last few days and for someone that's only used an iPod it is extremely confusing. I'm willing to spend some money for the right player but I don't need anything fancy. I'll only be using it for music. Here's what I'm looking for:

1 - An iTunes like desktop app that will allow me to organize the DAP, make playlists, and edit songs (like cutting off 30 seconds of static at the end of a song).

2 - Storage capacity of 500+ GB. An SD card is fine. I'd like to be able to have all my music on an SD card so if the player dies I can just put it into a new player.

3 - Headphone port for headphones and auxiliary output for my car.

Choosing a DAP in the $150–$250 range

Hey guys! I own a Sony NWZ-A15. I’ve tried a lot of headphones, but my favorites have always been the Sennheiser PX100 (first revision) and Koss Porta Pro. However, the Sony player just can't drive them properly—let alone the Beyerdynamic DT240 Pro over-ears—which is a real shame. (AVLC is turned off, by the way.)
I recently bought an M-Audio sound card and was impressed by the sound it produced with the PX100s and DT240s.

So, here’s my idea: I need a DAP capable of driving the Porta Pros and PX100s with plenty of headroom to spare, and potentially the Philips SHP9500s down the line (since they aren't too hard to drive). Since my budget is quite limited, I’ve narrowed it down to these models: the Hiby R1 (I assume you’ll dismiss this one as underpowered?), the Hiby R3 (II), and the pricier FiiO JM21 (though, to be honest, I probably can't afford that one).
If anyone has other ideas in this price range, please share your thoughts and experiences. To clarify what I’m looking for: I need sound quality and plenty of power—specifically to drive my on-ear headphones, the Porta Pro and PX 100. Yes, they are lightweight, but the only thing that has truly driven them properly so far is an M-Audio card. Thanks for your time!

Casual Here

I tell you what, I have no clue how I got here. Though I’m glad I’m here. the A55 appeared on my eBay listings ($152 shipped), it was a Japanese version and I was able to use a few command prompts with a software downloaded from a 4 minute YouTube video and bam I was able to add English to it. Then I went out and bought these Truthear x Reds for $60 bucks. Plus the proprietary Sony USB for $10, with an all in price of $222 this has on multiple occasions made me not realize my surroundings which is something I don’t tend to do. Being able to detach that hard from everything else is rare for me and I’m here for it.

I need advice on headphones for my Fiio M21

EDIT:

In the title I said "headphones", but I was referring to IEMs.

I just received my Fiio M21 and it feels very premium. I am currently using it with my Beyerdynamics, but I also bought some IEMs on AliExpress, specifically the KZ ZS10 Pro X. I would like to know if anyone here has tried them, if they are a good buy, or if I should look for better alternatives.

Finally. Inner Peace.

Two years ago, a thief stole my whole setup—my Hiby R6 Pro (2018) and my Focal Elear. I was so traumatized that I rage-quit the hobby entirely.

Fast forward to recently: the itch came back. I tried to be casual. I got the Meze 109 Pro for home, dusted off my ancient Hidizs MS4 Mermaid, and ran them off a Questyle M15c dongle on my phone. It was a great setup.

But then, the audiophile brain-rot kicked in.

Using my phone with the M15 was fine, but I missed the pure, uninterrupted experience of a dedicated player. No emails, no texts, no distractions. Just music. So, I went a little crazy and bought the Onix XM2 Tocata.

Now, if you know anything about the Tocata, it’s an absolute powerhouse. And this is where the classic audiophile mental gymnastics began.

I looked at this flagship DAP, looked down at my old Hidizs MS4 IEMs, and realized I was basically putting budget supermarket tires on a hypercar. The Onix had no right to exist if I didn’t give it a partner worthy of its power.

So, to justify my expensive new DAP, I obviously had to buy endgame IEMs.

Logic!

The Verdict: The Monarch MKIV plugged into the Onix Tocata is an absolute out-of-body experience.

The detail retrieval is stupid, the bass texture is pure filth, and the stage makes me forget I’m wearing IEMs.

It took two years and a lot of questionable financial decisions, but I am finally back, completely decoupled from my phone, and firmly stuck at the bottom of the rabbithole.

Happy listening, everyone!

SHANLING EC PLAY REVIEW  (at the link)

-Portable CD Player

-CS43198 dac

-700 mW max output power

Another week and another review period is over as I just published my review of the Shanling EC Play at MBA. Recently I made a social media post stating (in so many words) that I have been very pleasantly surprised at how gratifying it has been to listen to actual physical CD's again. I was not expecting that folks. If anything I was expecting to not even review the EC Play. That thought was flipped on its head when I sat down, chose a CD (album), got all my settings right, chose my iem and began to remember what it was to hear an album in this way. To take it all in, the artist's message, the small sonic journey, as if I'm hearing songs I've heard countless times yet in a fresh light. So Nostalgic for me! Friends, this is what I used to do. Before digital files and after cassette tapes there was a strong run of portable CD Players (which were much worse in comparison with the EC Play) and that is how I got my music. For years! You kids have zero idea what it was to go buy a physical album and hurry home to listen to your junk $5 earbuds and a dope Sony CD Player. Mind transported! So it was cool to kind of relive that a bit. Also, this CD Player is pretty much flawless in its functionality and sounds so good. Couple that with the fact that it has 700 mW of output power, the CS43198 dac and some of the best anti-vibrational tech that I've personally used. I know some of you have been in this new “CD Player” resurgence, but I'm fresh on it folks. So, I suppose I see what some of the hype was about. Again. Granted, nothing can totally peel me away from my daps, dac/amps and Terra bites of hi-res digital music, but I am so glad that Shanling decided to send the EC Play over because it offers one of the more satisfying respites from my digital collection. Anyways, my review doesn't have any comparisons and for that I am sorry. I simply have nothing to truly compare it against. However, I do provide my full experience, what I hear, what I see, and I do provide as much insight as possible into the Shanling EC Play. So, if any of you would like to learn a bit more about the EC Play than feel free to check out my review. For everyone else, just have a good day, listen to your tunes (if possible), stay safe, and take care.

🔥🔥 EC Play Pros🔥🔥

-Build Quality is a Shanling trait and the EC Play is built very well

-I happen to like the retro-modern and sleek design

-Bluetooth Receiver and Transmitter Modes work well, no issues

-LDAC

-Many different modes of listening

-700 mW of max power is fantastic for a portable CD Player

-Easy to understand controls and menu navigation

-Fantastic for sensitive iems, low output impedance

-No skips from the anti-vibrational tech

-Huge 12-hour battery life

-Nicely balanced sound, no exaggerated areas of the mix, low coloration

-Punchy and tight bass influence on my iems/headphones

-Melodic, airy, and also very clean midrange

-Non-fatiguing treble with nice extension and a smoother cadence

-Should reinforce good micro-detail retrieval

-Stage is fairly spacious for a source device, shouldn’t make your iems

feel more closed-in

👎👎 EC Play Cons👎👎

-For such a dope player, it is still considered niche (is this a con?)

-Bluetooth Transmitter Mode is limited to the SBC audio codec

-Small screen obviously isn’t as information-rich as a typical dap

-You are limited to CD listening unless you use in USB Dac Mode

-Anyone who streams music is pretty much out-of-luck with the EC Play

-The EC Play sounds awesome imo, however, it doesn’t carry that typical

Shanling house sound and flavor as much as other Shanling devices

Not really into DAPs but for the love of the game?

Alright so my main source has always been my DAC and phone combo and not really crazy into DAPs but for 160$ and just love of the game, is it worth?

u/BigManDrew_BMD — 1 day ago

Got my hands on the Echo Nano. After 24 hours of owning, I can say I like it. It definitely does not replace my Hiby R6 iii but it gets the job done in the sake of simplicity. The controls take time to get used to and the ui can get confusing with how your music plays. More details below.

I loaded up 250 songs so far via a micro sd card. I pulled it out from my Hiby and put it into this so the trasnfer was just a refresh.

However, the music is organized as artist before song name so it can be tedious to find the specific song you want to play.

The sound quality is pretty good (I'm not an audiophile so if you think i am wrong, sucks to suck).

The battery life is pretty bad. I was using it on and off for a few hours so it didn't die on me but I did see the battery drain throughout the day.

If you plan on using something for long plane rides, don't look into getting this unless you plan on charging it while on the go.

I haven't used it as DAC however as I don't use my DAPs as DACs.

Overall I would give this thing a 3.5/5

Feel free to AMA.
