Random tip: hitting the ball while boosting heavily impacts the ball speed. if you often fail to keep the ball close, try not boosting on contact, then boosting right after the hit
almost embarrassed to say I didn't learn this until recently as I was struggling with wall hits always running away from me when wanting to pop.
