Like the title states I’ve come to notice a few things about the way I train. Typically I would go play some training packs and cycle through the many different shot options to warm up/practice. After the warmup I would go play ranked and question why I couldn’t do the same things I did during the packs. Well today I loaded up free play for the first time in forever, turned unlimited boost off and practiced hitting it up the wall for air dribbles and what not. Wow what a humbling experience… I literally cannot do anything when I set up my own shots and I’m so glad to have noticed it now. The shots in the training packs are so easy to reset and reset time after time until you get it just right. Yeah sure every once in a while you’ll get the nice first touch you’ve practiced for ages for but it happens so rarely. From this day forward I will be a free play connoisseur, hopefully it will help in the long run (end rant)
Because the new season is tomorrow I thought I should spend some time thinking about how to get better and analysing how successful my training methods are (if you’ve read the title I’m sure you can guess). Overall I am pretty sure I need to completely revamp how I train because my current process of reviewing a game of ranked and then warming up for a bit then moving onto a more specific training drill and then into ranked hasn’t really been working. I’ve been D3 for a couple years and play for a couple hours a day but I’m still making a lot of mistakes that I really am not proud of. Part of me definitely thought that I’d be way better by now but I guess I just have to keep working towards my goals.
Any advice on how to make better decisions in game, I just feel like I’m so unaware at times because as much as I try to keep track of player positions and use that info to my advantage I find myself consistently making plays that make no sense or are just bad ideas because I misjudge a players momentum/position. Like I’m fully focused during my matches but I still feel like I’m not focused enough because I end up missing important details because in the moment I don’t realise they are important.
I’m honestly just disappointed in myself because I know I can do better but it just doesn’t happen.
Any advice on becoming a more consistent and a smarter player would be helpful.
I can do basic air dribbles quite consistently when coming off the right wall, but when coming off the left wall I just can’t seem to get it down. I have no idea whether this is because I am right handed or not, or just a simple preference that my brain has latched on to. I swear I am doing everything exactly the same as when doing an air dribble from the right wall but somehow I just can’t manage it😂 any tips?
I think I found the simplest way to make speed flips consistent.
The idea:
The clip shows 30 perfect speed flips in a row.
Tutorial:
I've included a controller overlay and config screenshot in my video.
Let me know if anyone else tries it and gets similar results.
The bindings go in "Documents\My Games\Rocket League\TAGame\Config\TAInput.ini"

Currently i play rl on a gaming laptop on 144fps.
Is it worth it to invest in a gaming setup to get atleast 240fps and a good monitor? Or is it not gonna have alot of diffrence on the gameplay from playing on a laptop?
Hey,
I've been using free air roll for my entire Rocket League time (~2000 hours). I peaked at GC1 a few years ago and just came back to the game. I'm currently C1 in 2s and grindind back slowly.
I'm wondering if now is a good time to finally switch to directional air roll.
A few questions:
- Is it even worth it with that many hours of free air roll muscle memory?
- How long did it take you to feel normal again after switching?
- Is the skill gap between those two so big ?
I'm fine with taking my time and grinding free play. Just want to know if it's worth it before I commit.
Thanks!
I want to master the speedflip, but I don't know if I do it right or wrong, I usually get to quick serves first but they always beat me the ball anyway, I do it right or wrong, what should I correct?

I've been practicing this for about 2 weeks, at first it was terrible, I feel like I know how to do it, but I'm missing something, should I stop practicing it for now and continue with game sense or intuition?
I know that I focus a lot on the basic mechanics as if they were going to save me, but I feel that learning the Speedflip from now on will help me a lot later, I guess that is my weakness
I've been playing for almost a year now and I feel like I'm trapped and I don't know how to improve, I recently reached Platinum 2 division 4, but I didn't go beyond that and went back down to Plat 1, apart from the speedflip, could you give me some advice? about what I should do? I'm not the type of player looking to learn air dribblings and things like that, I think that if I continue playing normally sooner or later they will come out of instinct so I only focus on simple mechanics like Wave dash or Half flip
Thank you for your attention
Not really stuck yet, but I'm sure I have some pretty fixable problems that I am missing and are holding me back. I already know my shooting and touches overall are kind of awful and will be focusing on that next season. I think my main struggles are hesitation, rushing rotations/not staying back post, panicking and giving the ball away instead of controlling it, over-boosting and overcommitting.
Would really like some input from some higher level players on not just what I'm doing wrong, but also what I am doing right or should continue doing.
Picked this replay because I think I made lots of mistakes, or at least my core mistakes were amplified/obvious to see.
Years playing this game and yet every replay analysis I have posted has comments related to my positioning. I don't disagree as I find myself stuttering around the field a lot (all the time?).
I've chased this hard enough that I'm now looking for videos at high champ level of what is a player thinking when they are moving around the field.
Any such YouTubers/twitchers you can recommend?
Hi guys! Just started, about I’d say 80 or so hours, pushing 90. Have A LOT to go, I know that, my peak 3s rating is around 540, gold 2 and 2s mid 400s (played more 3s than 2s by far). Problem is when I started I was playing casuals with my friend and his friend who were diamond/champ —- so you can imagine why I started to learn aerial lol.
Anyways, I’m going back to the fundamentals and working on basic skills so far.
But something’s been bugging me, I can fast aerial. But when I watch pros and/or even players way better it seems as if they tornado spin from the immediate start of the fast aerial, but when I try this I go flying in a diagonal like direction.
Do you start after you press the second jump when slightly tilted?
Since I'm plat 1, and suck at the game it makes sense to switch since I don't know any mechanics to begin with, but as someone who last played gta5 on ps3, it feels really awkward. Especially air rolling, and using the left analog to rotate the car and stuff. Even other than that I miss stationary balls.
I can stick to it if it is gonna be worth it in the long run, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on whether it is actually better or not.
sometimes i do the speedflip right but my car js go to the other side( NO powerslide method)
I finally have some free time after a long time, I want to start improving rapidly by doing something I rarely do i.e focused training, I would like to know what to do if I want to learn specific mechs and also if learning DAR is worth it and if so how can I learn it ASAP, thankyou!
I've struggled a long time with being tilted in 1v1. Many players have so much inherent antagonism towards their opponent, and this is especially apparent in 1V1.
I had a revelation today after feeling tilted by these types of players for years and literally thousands of hours. What I'm feeling is actually their own pride. It's not my own anger or frustration. I'm actually feeling what THEY'RE expressing. Not what "I'm feeling".
Me and a friend want to 2v1 an SSL to grade the skill gap. We are both low end GC’s. NA. Thx
ive been on air roll learning since 50 hours into rocket league. i think taking it too advanced messed me up, and now with 250 hours, majority of it in straight air roll training, i dont think ive gotten as better as many tutorials say. i know i messed up going advanced before learning basic, so i would like to know if i should change binds to restart my experinece on this game. the only bind i would be changing is the air roll bind, since i didnt develop anything significant muscle memory with any other. i would change my air roll left from square to r2, the drive button. Please let me know if this is a good idea. Im also gold 2-3 solos and plat twos.
I finally hit GC at the end of the season, but the difference in pace compared to C3 feels huge.
A lot of the time I feel like my mechanics aren't fast or consistent enough. My touches, recoveries and overall execution often feel a step behind compared to the players I'm facing now.
For those who made the jump and managed to stay in GC:
I'm trying to figure out the best way to close the gap and get comfortable at this level instead of feeling like I'm constantly playing catch-up.
TLDR Champ 3 2s game, keep getting stuck around 1320-1350, cant get out of division 2 after getting Grand Champ last season and dont know what to do
