Lens Profile Bug

I know Reddit can harbor the worst in people and for just one moment I'd like to indulge in that low sensibility to air a major frustration I've had with Capture One for the past 3 years. Sorry in advance, but also please join me if you've also felt similarly.

I am a photographer tethering on set daily and coordinating with a post production team by night. I have zero time to waste and often very little margin for error.

A retoucher just let me know that a set images didn't align. This happens sometimes if there is a slight movement in the tripod and it's a quick and easy fix. However this time it was different.

The culprit, a mismatched lens profile! When switching lenses Capture One does not automatically re-assign an updated profile to correspond to the new lens. Or at least not all of the time. For part of this shoot, we used a GF 32-64mm zoom lens which we manually updated the profile on the first test shot. All good, until now. As it turns out Capture One still does not update the profile as the zoom is articulated. So we have hundreds of images at different focal lengths along the 32-64 lens that are all set to the lens profile of the very first test shot which produces varying lens distortion correction.

Now we have to go back and reassign the profiles and start post from scratch. This is slightly-partly my fault only in that I knew of this behavior, however we stopped using this zoom lenses because of this problem 3 years ago. At that time we alerted Capture One of the problem and they said it's normal behavior. With no fix in sight we just stopped using the lens because it was such a pain to deal with.

Fast forward to 2026. We finally caved and submitted to the subscription thinking there's enough to justify an upgrade. Well I can tell you that despite several years of updates, and our correspondence with Capture One that this bug exists and I found out the hard way by wasting $3,500 in post production.

What's especially frustrating is that just this morning I received an email letting me know my subscription which I've only had for several months is going up by 6%.

This is absolutely unacceptable from a professional software.

Ok rant done, but still fuming.

FX3 or R6V

My clients (architectural/ interiors) are begging for video so I'm looking to buy my first motion focused camera system. I am a Fuji GFX stills shooter and very happy within that ecosystem. As I enter the motion world, I want to pick and stick with an ecosystem once I begin buying lenses.

I understand how popular Sony is in this field and in particular the FX3. My question is, I don't want to wait any longer to see if an FX3 successor is coming and so, is there any reason why I shouldn't go with the R6V? It has objectively more to offer than the FX3. The R6V has internal 7K RAW 60fps, 120fps, opengate and $2,000 cheaper.

What are you picking in this scenario and why?

(edited for misspelling)
