Lens Profile Bug

I know Reddit can harbor the worst in people and for just one moment I'd like to indulge in that low sensibility to air a major frustration I've had with Capture One for the past 3 years. Sorry in advance, but also please join me if you've also felt similarly.

I am a photographer tethering on set daily and coordinating with a post production team by night. I have zero time to waste and often very little margin for error.

A retoucher just let me know that a set images didn't align. This happens sometimes if there is a slight movement in the tripod and it's a quick and easy fix. However this time it was different.

The culprit, a mismatched lens profile! When switching lenses Capture One does not automatically re-assign an updated profile to correspond to the new lens. Or at least not all of the time. For part of this shoot, we used a GF 32-64mm zoom lens which we manually updated the profile on the first test shot. All good, until now. As it turns out Capture One still does not update the profile as the zoom is articulated. So we have hundreds of images at different focal lengths along the 32-64 lens that are all set to the lens profile of the very first test shot which produces varying lens distortion correction.

Now we have to go back and reassign the profiles and start post from scratch. This is slightly-partly my fault only in that I knew of this behavior, however we stopped using this zoom lenses because of this problem 3 years ago. At that time we alerted Capture One of the problem and they said it's normal behavior. With no fix in sight we just stopped using the lens because it was such a pain to deal with.

Fast forward to 2026. We finally caved and submitted to the subscription thinking there's enough to justify an upgrade. Well I can tell you that despite several years of updates, and our correspondence with Capture One that this bug exists and I found out the hard way by wasting $3,500 in post production.

What's especially frustrating is that just this morning I received an email letting me know my subscription which I've only had for several months is going up by 6%.

This is absolutely unacceptable from a professional software.

Ok rant done, but still fuming.

**Working creator/affiliate code for Capture One Pro 2026?**

I'm planning to switch from Lightroom Classic to Capture One Pro and would love to grab a perpetual license. Before I wait for Black Friday, does anyone have a currently working YouTuber/creator discount code?

I know codes from Pal2Tech, Mango Street, Cam Mackey, Willem Verbeck, etc. used to circulate — just not sure which ones are still active in 2026.

Any pointers appreciated. Cheers!

Just a quick follow-up to my last post for those that haven't seen it yet...

I posted about the forum under a different account previously, but now have a dedicated C1Forum account.

I started using Capture One recently and realized there isn’t really a dedicated place to talk about it anymore. The official Capture One forum has been shut down for a while, and they don’t plan to reopen it. That left a gap — no community focused solely on Capture One where people can ask questions, share tips, and learn together. That’s why I created C1Forum.com.

The forum has a centralized resource library, so instead of hunting through scattered posts or tutorials online, you can find guides for different versions, workflow tips, and other useful materials all in one place. There’s also an image gallery where members can share edits, compare approaches, and discuss what works in real-world examples. Everything is organized to make learning and collaborating easier than on other platforms.

It’s a friendly, no-pressure space for photographers at any level. Whether you’re just starting out or already experienced, C1Forum.com is built to help you explore Capture One, see community edits, and access resources that aren’t available anywhere else.

ChromIQ - an ArgyllCMS GUI for printer profiling

Since this is somewhat related to photography I wanted to share a project I have been working on.
For quite some time I tried to improve my workflow so that the colors on my monitor are better represented in the prints I sometimes make. I bought a used X-Rite i1Studio and tried to create ICC profiles for my printer with it but I have never really been happy with the results. So I did some research and found out about ArgyllCMS - a very capable collection of programms for colormanagement by Grame Gill. Just one caveat: they are command line only and I never reall got the hang of it. Last year someone (Knut Larsson) created a nice script that helped me to create my first printer ICC profiles with Argyll and I liked the results better than what the X-Rite software gave me. But I thought that to make this attractive for more people it needs a real GUI. Incidentially at that time I watched a video about how easy vibe coding with Claude Code would be. Maybe it was sponsored content but I was interested and decided to realize my idea of an Argyll GUI. It was not as easy for me as described in the video but after some iterations I am pretty proud about how far I have gotten. It might still have some bugs here and there and room for optimizations but if this is of interest for someone please feel free to try it.

Feedback greatly apprechiated!

Best regards
Sebastian

New Capture One Forum

Hey everyone,

I wanted to let this subreddit know that I’ve quietly launched a new independent community for Capture One users at C1Forum.com.

One of the big reasons I decided to start this project is because the official Capture One forum has been gone for quite a while now, and there still doesn’t seem to be a replacement community forum available. Facebook groups are helpful, but long-term discussions, troubleshooting, workflows, tutorials, and searchable information can get difficult to keep organized over time. I wanted to create a dedicated place where Capture One users could build a real community again.

Right now this is a soft opening only. I’m not publicly promoting the site yet, and I haven’t shared it anywhere else. I specifically wanted the members of the Capture One subreddit to be the first people invited because this group has a lot of experienced and genuinely helpful users whose feedback would actually matter.

The forum is still in its early stages, but the core structure is in place and fully functional. Along with the discussion forums themselves, I’ve also added a media gallery and a resource section for things like presets, workflows, tutorials, editing examples, and other Capture One-related resources as the community grows.

At this stage, I’m mainly looking for feedback:

• What works well

• What feels confusing

• What’s broken

• What sections should exist

• What features would be useful

• General suggestions and ideas

A few important notes:

• The site is unofficial and not affiliated with or endorsed by Capture One

• Registration is currently required to participate

• The structure is intentionally simple right now and will expand naturally over time

• Some areas are still being refined as I continue building things out

If you’d like to help test things out and be part of the very beginning stages of the community, I’d really appreciate it.

https://C1Forum.com

Thanks everyone.

Need help with color management in pure sRGB workflow

A recent question I posted in this Subreddit has led me to the topic of color management which has always been challenging for me. I would be grateful for some advice with my particular setup:

  • The final images I export from Capture One are exclusively sRGB JPGs. I use them for viewing on screen, for websites and to send them to a printing service that only accepts sRGB files.
  • My computer is a Macbook Pro with a Dell U2720Q monitor. The monitor has a factory-calibrated sRGB mode but cannot be user-calibrated. It is set to the sRGB mode. In the Mac system settings, the color profile is set to "Dell U2720Q".

I've been working with this setup for quite a while now and the prints I have ordered so far match the images on the screen very closely, so I guess my settings can't be all wrong. But still some important questions remain:

  1. Do I need to set the monitors color mode to sRGB? I would think that it should be possible to leave it in its native color space and have the Mac and C1 deal with color management, but this doesn't seem to be the case. Colors are much more saturated in the native color mode. Why is that?
  2. What do I choose as Proof Profile in C1? The default setting is "Selected Recipe" which in my case means sRGB because all my export recipes are sRGB. But I think choosing ProPhoto, Adobe RGB, or even "No Profile" (a.k.a. the C1 native color space) might be a better option, because the histogram is so easily clipped in sRGB which I find distracting.
  3. Why does the preview image in C1 always look the same, no matter what color space I select as Proof Profile? This makes sense to me as long as the monitor is in sRGB mode, because then it probably won't display any colors outside that color space. But I would think that if I set it to its native color space I should be able to see some differences between different Proof Profiles.

I need your help to understand roadblocks in Capture One

I went through the exact same thing as everyone, when switching from Lightroom years ago. Especially the feeling of not knowing if you’re building the right workflow or not. I’m actually researching this transition deeply because I may build educational material around it. But first, I neeed your help. I’d genuinely love to understand your experience better

How can I achieve this “dense / airy medium format print scan” look with digital files?

I’m trying to understand how to achieve the kind of look shown in these references using a fully digital workflow, without shooting 35mm film or medium format film.

What I’m reacting to is not just “film grain” or halation. These images feel much more dimensional, soft, dense, and somehow physically present — almost like they were shot on medium format, printed, and then scanned again.

The things I notice most are:

  • a kind of soft atmospheric haze without losing detail
  • very smooth tonal transitions
  • highlights that feel thick and luminous instead of crispy
  • depth and “body” in the skin tones
  • colors that feel slightly muted but still rich
  • an overall sense of volume and air

I mainly use Capture One, and sometimes Photoshop for more advanced retouching/color work.

I’ve experimented with:

  • curves adjustments
  • low contrast masks
  • lifted blacks
  • subtle bloom/haze
  • frequency separation and texture reduction
  • film grain overlays

And while I can get close to a softer filmic feeling, I still feel these references go beyond that. My results often end up looking like “digital with film effects” rather than having that true medium format print-scan character.

So I’m wondering:

  • Is this mostly lighting and lens choice?
  • Is it coming from the print/scanning process?
  • Is there a specific color management approach involved?
  • Could this be related to highlight compression / microcontrast?
  • Are there retouching techniques that specifically create this sense of density and volume?
  • Or is this simply impossible to fully recreate digitally?

I’d really love to hear from photographers, colorists, or retouchers who have experience matching this aesthetic.

Even better if you can explain:

  • what visually defines this look
  • what part is capture vs post-production
  • and what you would personally do in Capture One / Photoshop to get closer to it.

Thanks. I’m slightly obsessed with this look at this point. My curves layers are starting to look like modern art.

Totally concerned with Sony compressed RAW formats and all future Sony caemras.

As we all know, Capture One is STILL not able to support A7V's compressed and compressed HQ while Adobe was able to suport them a while ago. Despite what they are saying, it's totally BS. How come Adobe was able to support those formats? Care to explain? Since Adobe already support those RAW formats, what Capture One's saying is totally meaningless.

The most serious issue is Sony will use those RAW formats for all future cameras including a new A7R6. Guess what? There is no gurantee if A7R6's compressed RAW formats will be supported within this year and you are forced to use loseless format only until they finally support it.

Come on, Capture One. DO SOMETHING. Adobe also reached out to Sony to get supports and is that all you can do? Maybe it's your problem not collaborating with Sony just like you did with Hasselblad? It's already more than 6 months since A7V's compressed RAW files are yet to be supported.

At this point, Sony users should avoid using Capture One at all cost as they are still not able to support A7V and now, more Sony cameras will never get supports for compressed RAW formats.

Extreme Color Shift from camera to Capture One (Latest Version)

Hey all, hope you are having a wonderful day/night.

Recently I've noticed whilst tethered, that my images look quite underexposed as opposed to on-camera, I've also noticed a huge shift in the orange tones, moving all the way to deep red. I was using a projector attachment for a light that was clearly orange in real life, and in camera; yet, capture one decided to render it out as a saturated dark red. I changed the settings and took me 5 sec to "fix" the shift, but as a professional these kind of time consuming things is what we tend to avoid the most.

I've been using Lightroom for many years now, and only this year started using capture one for some of my studio or product focused work, so I admit I really lack a grounded knowledge of how capture one behaves in all scenarios.

Attached you will find 3 images: Unedited C1, Unedited Lightroom (Which better resembles what is seen on camera), and Edited C1 (5 sec edit).

I know capture one has different rendering and all, but this amount of shift seems absurd. Is this behavior normal, or am I doing something wrong?

C1 Unedited Image (Screenshot)

Lightroom Unedited Image (Screenshot)

C1 Edited Image (Screenshot)

More Info:

Camera: R6 MKII

Lens: RF 24-70 f/2.8 L IS USM

Tethering Cable: TetherPro Optima 10G

All lights had ratings of CRI 95+ or above

ICC Profile: Pro Standard (I also tried changing that to Generic, but is was basically the same)

I have edited already 300+ images on capture one for professional projects, but it seems its weakness is rendering warm oranges accurately, instead of turning them red.

Why do my Fuji raw files look so warm in C1?

I'm trying out C1 because I've been hearing it's so much better at handling Fuji raw files. But why are they looking so warm compared to LR? SOOC jpeg for comparison.

Access Dropbox folder on Mac Sequoia 15.7.5

Hi, despite searching I can't find a solution to this

I have a session on Dropbox, synced locally. I am trying to navigate to the folder via System Folders in the Library section, but because the Dropbox is in a hidden Library folder on mac by default, I can't find a way to navigate to the folder as it doesn't show in the Library section in Capture One

Any idea how I can access the folder?
Cheers

C1 is cropping, resizing and resetting metadata.

We recently shot a job and the images are showing up with a severe crop that presents as black bars in the previews. Metadata shows the image with its native size of 7008x4672. Crop is unconstrained. The software is applying a lens correction for the Sony GM 24 f1.4 but the image was shot on a Sony PZ 16-35. If you click on the image the metadata changes the size to 6000x4000. If you click "hide distorted areas" The implied crop switches to the other side and reduces to 4992x3328. Crop is set to unconstrained still. Resetting crop changes the crop dimensions to 4000x6000 but metadata still shows 7008x4672 until you click off the image and then it resets the metadata to 4000x6000.

There are no process recipes selected. Version is 16.7.7.19

I've started a support ticket but I'm on deadline so I'm seeing if anyone here has ideas.

C1Pro on M5 MacBookPro batching 100MP Fuji files?

I have a new M5 MacBook Pro, running CaptureOne 16.7.7.19. Shot a large job last week with Fuji GFX100ii. 102mP files. Everything was great. Job is over. Now batching for client. Today CaptureOne with spinning Beach Ball when batching maybe 150 files at a time. Just frozen. I threw away Cache and rebuilt Previews. Now it's hanging on even 50 files at a time, batching in to JPG. Can you "repair" a Session? The VERIFY says the Session is fine. Suggestions? THANK YOU.

Anyone running base Mac mini M4 + 4K display + Capture One (16.6 or newer) without slider lag?

Looking for first-hand reports from this exact combo before I buy (I am on a tight budget). I've seen plenty of complaints (DPReview Jan 2026, Thomas Fitzgerald's blog on M1 Max + 4K, Phase One's own "Pro or Max recommended" guidance), but I can't find anyone saying it actually works smoothly.

My planned setup: base Mac mini M4, 24 GB RAM, paired with LG 4K monitor.

Is there a way of downloading photos directly from my camera into C1 if I have already shot the photos?

Ideally wirelessly but wired would be okay. Don’t want to have to remove the SD card and import them that way.
Was looking through tether and import settings but couldn’t see anything.
C1 all in one, latest update.

Hello everyone. I'm a long time photographer and colorist and mostly always based my workflow around LUT color grades for their flexibility to pass color settings around. Capture One (C1) is a tool that I mostly used for it's amazing tethering capabilities and the basic development of images.

Lately I started doing some side gig work as a developer too, and I decided to realize a long waited project and make a good LUT to ICC converter for C1 for me and other users like me that want to take their LUT based workflow on C1.

C1 has it's own special way of reading ICC files, and that made the task mostly guesswork at the beginning. I had already tried some known market solutions all paid and refunded because the conversions weren't accurate enough. It was visible that that the colors weren't the same on the LUT and on the ICC. And you can see that in professional applications as well, for example some film simulation vendors - who sell both LUTs and ICC of the same grade, the ICC is always different than the LUT. The two different formats don't give the same result.

I decided then to actually start measuring the differences between what the LUT would do and what the ICC would do and the best method would be according to the CIEDE2000 standard. This basically calculates the differences in RGB values between different swatches. So for example, if the LUT would change 40-40-40 dark grey to 42-38-42 dark grey and the "same" ICC would change to 45-41-45 then this would mean that there wold be a mean ΔΕ variation here between the two. To give you an impression of what ΔΕ is - under 2 is almost completely unnoticeable, 2 to 5 could be regarded as professional standard, 5 to 10 would be a little off. The applications that I tried in the current market wouldn't go below 18 (!) ΔΕ. And yes this number includes even professional, publicly available conversions, just because there hasn't been a better alternative out there for a long time.

So I started trying different algorithm combos that would specifically work for C1 because nothing else seemed to work for it. My first attempts were at around 25 ΔΕ but shortly after I dropped to 15 ΔΕ and with several calibration rounds I would drop further and further with my first breakthrough being hitting under 10 ΔΕ. Ι remember I was very happy with that because it felt like such a big breakthrough at the time.

I kept pushing the conversion algorithm for a long time until I was able to decode what C1 would do to read ICC profiles. And then my main conversion algorithm would consistently start hitting ~3.5 ΔΕ.

This was when I finally hit the quality ceiling and any further tries would seem impossible.

Then I had the idea, to calibrate the input LUT in order to "convert differently" and produce a better icc. However this would keep failing dramatically because of how inconsistent C1 was to read the ICC profiles and how sensitive the conversion algorithm had become already to be pushed so much in order to produce a good starting point. That felt like another big block.

At that point, I decided to do one last attempt and instead of trying to calibrate the LUT, to actually build another algorithm that would calibrate the ICC. So I mapped the coordinates on the color card, produced automated targets and I would export the color card from C1, with the converted ICC applied, and measure it. Then, take the ΔΕ, reverse apply it to the actual ICC and calibrate it. And then I started seeing a further improvement of reducing the ΔΕ even down to 65% (!).

This was quite the biggest breakthrough, because I had already reached 3.5 ΔΕ and the 65% reduction meant that I could probably see a ΔΕ under 1.0 at some point. And it wasn't long after that, that I eventually started seeing that. At this point, I decided it was ready and started a plan to make it a fully normal software to be shipped. To who, I have no idea who would need something like that. I guess, only guys that love their LUTs too much to leave them and work in C1. But for what it's worth, I think I might have bridged the gap significantly.

There is a free trial available for anyone that would like to give it a try and get a glimpse of what my life has been in these last two months working 12 to 16 hours per day on that.

I would appreciate all feedback!
