It's hard to find motivation to do things in the heatwave but there are some great events going on this week that at least will keep you entertained (if not also cool) such as:
Laughterama 2026 – This is happening at Somerset House from today (29 July) to 2 August, with a line-up including comedians Josh Widdicombe, Dara Ó Briain, Fern Brady, Tom Allen, Nick Mohammed, Sara Pascoe and more.
Allegra at the Harold Pinter Theatre – Fun, quirky and ridiculous with a star-studded cast of John Middleton, Elizabeth Bower and Bailey Patrick. If you're looking for a West End experience, Allegra is running until the 8th of August.
Plastic Duck Race – Have you ever seen 3000 plastic ducks compete in an 100-metre bop across Merchant Square in Paddington? You need to. The annual Plastic Duck Race takes place this Thursday and it's probably one of the most London things to take place – weird and whimsical.

Lovers of Greek classic literature, gather here. Let the debates about seeing in The Odyssey in IMAX quell for just a second, and turn your attention to The Bridge Theatre instead. It's home to Simon Stone's adaptation of Aeschylus' The Oresteia, which takes place in contemporary UK, with a focus on the UK's hand in conflict in the Middle East. Don't let the domestic setting fool you, the play does not shy away from conflict, gore and tragedy – but it does it in completely refreshed way.

*Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes...*actually more like about two and a half months until the first performance of Rent on the West End after a 25-year break. The London revival kicks off on the 26 September 2026, with tickets booking through to 13 February 2027.
Stranger Things' Gaten Matarazzo will star in the leading role of Mark Cohen and the rest of the cast is yet to be announced (look out for our posts for more info!)
