Mom with extensive sclc

My mom went to the ER Sunday for what she thought was a pinched nerve. Scans showed cancer in her left lung, chest lymph nodes, her brain and spine. They did the biopsy Friday and while final pathology results are not back yet, I was told they are positive it’s extensive small cell lung cancer. They have not told her or my dad yet (my mom requested the doctor call me after the biopsy but the dr told me to wait until they shared the news with her to mention it).

She started off with parts of her legs numb and giving out but could walk. Within the week she now can no longer walk without a walker and someone nearby incase she falls. Her legs are now completely numb and has loss sensation in her bladder. She now leaks a good amount of urine when she coughs. She can still stand up and sit down on her own, she just says her legs are weak. She’s been on steroids to reduce brain swelling. She also says her brain feels foggy but is blaming the pain meds and is now refusing them. They have not let her leave the hospital.

I was told she has a few months to a few years left, depending on how she responds to chemo. Since she didn’t find out she even had it until it’s already spread to the brain and spine, is it even possible that she has years left? She’s 68 and her only diagnoses prior were copd and arthritis, but was mobile and self sufficient.

*as of this morning she’s not allowed to even use the walker. Doctors and nurses seem it too unsafe.

Random April forbearance?

I should have 120 months of employment this December so I’ve been keeping a close eye on my qualifying months and I noticed April was randomly placed in forbearance. No reason… just because Mohela wanted to I guess. I made a payment because I have autopay so will this eventually count when I apply for buy back? I’ll have save months and a few in school deferments (that I tried refusing but they refused) to buy back once my December payment posts and I submit my final employment certification.

*my son turned 18 this year and is moving out soon so it’ll affect my household size so planning on “paying myself” the typical loan payment and just keeping it in savings vs continue paying Mohela as I wait.

**apparently my recertification is 12/13/2026 and my payment is due that date as well 🤦‍♀️

I did it!

I was so worried as my taper was a bit more lazy than I had originally planned (super busy with work and my son’s senior year activities) but wow! And I still had energy to do at least another mile. Surprisingly, it was the downhill segments that were tough and caused me to slow down. I started off following the 2:30 pacer but felt comfortable speeding up (and NO walking at all!). Woohoo!

New tub delivered today-problems

Hot tub was delivered at 7am. Electrician got here at 8:30am. It’s now 1:35pm and it finally powers on without tripping breaker but now gives me “DR” code. I made sure I filled it through the filter area like I was told to do! So I go to take off the front panel to bleed it and the screws heads are basically stripped and I can’t get them off.

Don’t know what to do at this point.

I have a 1/2 marathon coming up at the end of May. I’m interested in doing 1-2 halves a year and this local 10k trail race in October. I might look into doing a full marathon next year but not 100% sure yet. I’m thinking about maintaining a base level of fitness in between races with the following schedule:

Monday-5k
Tuesday-cross training (martial arts)
Wednesday-5k
Thursday-cross training (martial arts)
Friday-2 miles
Saturday-10k
Sunday-rest

It’s following the same days I currently train, just following a deload week mileage. Figured I can work on speed and hill work to push myself as needed (and to keep me entertained). Then pick up the mileage as needed before a race. Is this a good plan?
