Anyone know what caused a loud bang just west of downtown about two hours ago? I was with a group of people at Mothers’, it sounded like it was north and a bit west of there.

Gathering parts for my CETME C build, though I’m waiting to see how that proposed BATF rule that may kind of gut 922r shakes out before finalizing the parts list.

First off, the currently available weldment kit that I see for the receiver has a new G3 rear sight base included. Is it worth it to spend the extra money to get the parts for the G3 drum rear sight, or should I save about $50 total and stick with the CETME “Ferris Wheel” rear sight?

Second, is it worth it to weld a Picatinny rail on top of the receiver in case I get some crazy notion to add a scope later?

Third, I briefly talked to an FFL07 that has experience with bending/welding the receiver for the CETME/G3 platform (I prefer to have one that’s serialized in case I want to sell the rifle down the road), and they said that they’ve only seen one useable surplus barrel and trunnion. From what I’ve read about various builds from parts kits and looking at the parts that came with my parts kit, that assessment seems a bit exaggerated. Any thoughts from those with experience?
