Building up on my earlier post. Thanks to adoption of the tagging by French municipalities we hit above 1000 of signed hitchhiking spots on OSM.
In France they often come in the form of Rezo Pouce signs.

We have signed hitchhiking places in the OSM editor now. This is great for making hitchhiking more visible and help map those locations :)
I think that can be a great tool to show the world how one can get around hitchhiking.

There are many hitchhiking races popping up over the summer.
You can find all of the races on Hitchwiki.
If you have a Hitchwiki Account you can also subscribe to our newsletter that should help to spread the word about all the races and events that are about to happen.
I guess this can't be it, there must be crazier hitchhikers out there.
If you logged your rides on hitchmap in the past months they will also appear on https://maps.hitchwiki.org/ now under your name.
This was a one-off manual sync (on 2026/05/24) which allows you to smoothly transition to Hitchwiki Maps for logging your rides if you like. We would love to sync between both maps programmatically in the future but it is a bit uncertain if this will happen.
A great example is https://maps.hitchwiki.org/?user=Anettlee17 who travelled a lot in 2025 and rose to the top of our leaderboard with all rides incorporated.
