Here again

I had gone 34 days without a drink. And was feeling awesome. Then for some reason, I told myself I deserved a drink. That was 1 week and 2 bottles of vodka ago. Trying again for sobriety and just hit 24 hours without a drink. Feeling depressed, guilty, anxious, and just plain sick.

No question for the group. Just needed to put some thoughts into writing. Best of luck to everyone in their journey.

Still trying

I have been trying to gain full sobriety for 18 months now. I want it for several reasons: becoming healthier, being more present for my family, avoiding the crippling anxiety after drinking, not following in my parents footsteps (they are both recovering drug addicts), etc.

Over the course of the past 18 months I’ve had consistent sober streaks of 6-10 weeks. I’ve also had 11 weekends that were complete drunken blurs. I feel borderline obsessed with tracking my days sober and also my failures.

I’m looking for any advice or tips to break through and maintain sobriety. How to not give in to the thought of, “I’ve done good, I deserve one drink.” It always turns into way more than one. I have two people in my life that I reach out to when I feel like I’m about to drink, but I still do it sometimes.

Also, I’m especially nervous of an upcoming trip to an all inclusive resort in the Caribbean. Alcohol accessibility will be high and most people I’m going with will be drinking heavily.

If you’ve made it this far, I truly appreciate it. I wish everyone luck on their journey to recovery.
