Three Stratocaster Necks - Different Acoustic Output/Tone
I'm asking a question about why two strat necks (using one guitar body) generate very different acoustic outputs (volume and tone). Both are fender maple necks, same radius and fret profile, same strings, one USA and one MIM.
When I attach the MIM, the acoustic output is richer, deeper, and more powerful; when I attach the USA neck, the acoustic output is not as strong (lower volume) and tinnier. I have Fralin pups in the body, and when plugged in I do notice that the acoustic differences do translate, or affect the electrical output as well.
There are some variations between the MIM and USA at the nut level (USA nut is newer, a bit higher) and perhaps truss-rod setting varies a bit, and I was wondering if those could be variables with the USA problem (I hear it as a problem, the thin, tinnier tone)? Or if somehow the materiality of USA neck itself is what is responsible for the thin acoustic resonance?
Thanks in advance. This is my first post, so I hope you might suffer the fool, here, a bit.
