Some help please, not sure if it’s just me but wondering if this is user error or maybe something off with my camera (Portra 160)
Hi folks, I picked up the 17 before our honeymoon in Greece alongside a couple of rolls of Portra 160. This follows on from a number of point and shoots that would die after shooting a few rolls of film and wanting to get something hopefully more reliable and with a warranty. Having said that, I’d very much class myself as a novice when it comes to film photography beyond auto point and shoots.
I shot primarily in automatic mode throughout the trip and with Exposure compensation consistently at 0 throughout. Exposure was set to 160 on the camera to reflect the film stock. The film lab I usually use is great for context too (Gulabi in Glasgow).
However, I am not sure if I’m just being overly critical but in some of the photos I can’t help but feel the colours are a bit lacking/washed out looking and I’m just wondering if there is something obvious I could be doing wrong here or that could be wrong with the camera? Additionally, I feel like there is some visible vignetting at times particularly when the sky is visible - not sure if this is pretty normal?
I’ve since shot a roll on Ultramax 400 I’m awaiting the results of and I used manual focus/ played about with compensation much more for this roll but still to receive this back and see if I’m any happier with the results. Any thoughts or input are appreciated - cheers!
