What's the best way to help your friend?

I made a short doc about a woman who had experienced sexual and physical abuse and is starting to find herself again after leaving her boyfriend. She specifically mentioned that when friends tried to help her, it would "tighten the hold my boyfriend has on me". When asked what would have been helpful, she said for friends/family members to keep receipts and call the police more. Curious if others relate to this, or what other things people recommend friends/family do in an abusive situation?

I filmed a local woman's story of survival, abuse, addiction and homelessness.

Last January I put up a post on Craigslist looking for people who wanted to share their story on camera. A woman responded.

A few days later I showed up with my camera and we filmed for roughly four hours over two days. I had no idea what I was walking into. She opened up about everything: growing up on Long Island, moving to Shell Beach, two abusive relationships, homelessness in New York, drug addiction, and two pregnancies that changed the course of her life.

This story happened largely in and around the Central Coast.

Would love to do more stories of all sorts. If you know someone who might be interesting send me a message!
