I revived a 1963 magnavox stereo console
My dad found an original 1963 pre Astro-sonic vintage Magnavox console in a dilapidated shed. The moving company helping him get rid of the abandoned furniture inside of it was about to throw this away before he stopped them and sent me a photo. I had never worked on audio equipment before, but he knew I wanted a record player. I have been collecting vinyls but had no way to play them before this. It took me about every weekend this last summer when I had a free few hours to tear this thing apart, oil up the motor, recap the 8802 and 7909 inside, make some circuit modifications, and touch it up with some lighting, an acrylic panel, and a Bluetooth receiver. I didn’t want to pay for schematics so I recapped it based on a screenshot of a YouTube video and my existing knowledge of electronics. I thought it would be awesome to be able to actually see the amp so I added the acrylic panel. I didn’t love it at first but it’s really grown on me. I think it turned out great, and it definitely sounds great, although I know there will be some vintage audio folks who think I ruined this console. Luckily it’s mine, and will stay mine, so I don’t have to worry about the resale value. This thing was almost trash so I don’t feel bad about the mods I made. Just wanted to share this, and if there’s anyone who is curious about how I pulled this off I’d love to answer any questions!
