Western Branch South

I’m looking for a house In Chesapeake because I’m relocating for work. Someone at work recommended Western Branch South, but I’ve read mixed things online about crime and the overall desirability of this area. I’ve found a house there that I like, and it’s in a beautiful neighborhood, but it’s adjacent to a rather ugly warehouse/business district and it’s only 2 miles from Portsmouth, and I’ve been told to stay as far away from Portsmouth as possible because of crime. Can anyone give me any insight? Western Branch South, good or bad?

Rentals in Norfolk with low credit scores?

Hello everyone, I’m hoping someone might have some helpful information for me. My husband got a new job in the area, and we need to move before August 31. We’ll be moving from North Carolina. I’ve been looking at various apartment communities in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Chesapeake, but I’m coming up empty-handed because of our credit scores. My husband lost his job during Covid and was out of work for 11 months, and our credit scores took a hit. We’re still in the process of repairing our credit, but both of our credit scores are currently in the 580s. My FICO 8 score is 612, but I don’t know if that helps when it comes to renting. Does anyone know of any apartment or townhome communities in Norfolk that would be willing to rent to someone like us? We understand that we may need to pay an larger deposit, and we’re fine with that. We need 2+ bedrooms, and the maximum rent we can afford is $2500 per month. If anyone has any helpful hints or can point us in the right direction, please do. Thank you in advance to anyone who has any information to share.
