Visiting LA with an aspiring teen film maker?
My son (15) and I are kicking off the summer with a trip to LA (he got to choose between NY and LA). We will be arriving in just over a week. I have been researching places to visit and am hoping to gain insight on some hidden gems. We aren’t big on touristy spots, so local, tucked away places are our jam. My son has become very passionate about making movies; cinematography, directing, and editing (film and sound) come very naturally to him. He has always been self taught and quick to figure out the technical aspects. He is anti AI and appreciates both analog and digital mediums. Film is his calling. Are there any places I could take him where he could get a feel for the truly creative side of film making, vs the standard cookie cutter format that many movies are now using? I came across CalArts, which seems to really focus on creativity/ingenuity. We may take a tour of their school if able. Are there any small independent studios that he may be able to tour or filming locations/connections that could inspire him and help him get excited about his future options?
