I was lucky enough to be at the filming for episode 4 and I took some notes afterwards to try and remember everything that happened, here are some fun detail you might enjoy...

Pre filming
Greg revealed that his waistcoat is fake, it doesn’t have a back to reduce his sweat.

Alex improvised a “country” song about the migration of bison.

We were told someone had to produce an egg, but we weren't told who, so it was a fun reveal when it happened.

Greg pointed at the chairs and said the names of the cast members before they came out.

There was some crowd work and there was someone who had lots of siblings with lots of wacky names which I can no longer remember.

Amy had some family/friends in the audience.

Intro/Prize task

Greg said he didn’t think his intro to Alex was mean enough and the later ones he’d make worse

Greg asked for permission from the director to throw water in Alex’s face.

I think Joanna sung a whole verse of silent night for Joel (ie more than what was shown) but I could be wrong.

Kumail asked what the most quintessential American food was, apple pie was suggested, he said Strawberry Jam, and then asked again and got us all to say strawberry jam.

Joanna went on for longer than was shown (I think) about her prize, has been funny seeing her do the same thing in every other episode.

Greg said his friend Graham died by having 3 packets of popping candy at once, he later said it was a lie as he felt it had killed the mood.

I wrote a note that "Armondo joked that he brought in a song by someone and the wombles" so I give myself partial credit for remembering the episode title.

Boring task

Someone mentioned Guantanamo Bay, and we were told it was the 3rd mention of the series of Guantanamo.

Joel explained that the boring thing he was doing was boring a hole, someone groaned in disgust in the audience which he imitated.

Everything else I noted down here made it to air (sheep cost, Kumail's muscles)

Mustard Custard Task

There was a big reaction from all 5 realising it was the mustard/custard task, Kumail leant forward out of his seat and gave Alex a middle finger.

Everyone took turns making cloche puns which I'm hope will make the outtakes because I can't remember most of them, Greg had cloche encounters of the 3rd kind but couldn’t figure out where to put it

There were lots of references back to racial harmony, Alex said he knows a Rachel Harmony

Side note: Alex grew up in Midhurst where all the buildings owned by one estate have their window frames painted a shade of yellow referred to as Mustard Custard which I choose to believe was the inspiration for this task.

The baby boy score update took several takes, they've posted some of them on instagram but it took a good few minutes to get it right.

Multi-task

There was a very long debate and lots of confusion about the banana peel being a sweet

Greg as he was waking off after said “I’m gonna get a lot of shit for that”

Live task

Armondo needed the live task read out again, Amy did actions the second time

The VAR check for Ocean was quite lengthy, during which there was a discussion about seals and Seal's kiss from a rose - Amy asked if it was a euphemism - Greg joked about the horrible visual image.

Post recording/downtime

Greg was asked about the person Alex didn’t like, Alex says he now likes that person.

In Greg's unaired scripted outro he threw another cup of water in Alex's face, having previously made several jokes about doing it a second time.

Alex mentioning they could’ve just asked what wasn’t under the cloche was filmed just before the outro, Kumail ran to grab the cup to throw water at Alex, he was stopped for continuity "don't mess with the scripted bits" - Greg.

While waiting for the winner announcement, Amy spoke about her Hull accent, the aquarium in Hull which has a submarium - a lift into shark tank, and the sharks were named Billy and Amy.

Joanna and Greg said they’d both have some popping candy after wrapping.

The cast got to go first, and G&A stayed for 13 pick ups (where they refilm/add in certain bits they didn't get the first time round) which was a lot apparently.

One of the pick ups Greg was introducing the boring task, and Alex said “you’re a boring task” which caused many shocked gasps from the audience.

Other pickups involved Greg handing out points much faster than he initially did.

For a lot of the pick ups Greg and Alex turned to look at the screen as if it was going to play something which the audience found funny, which Greg said he didn't understand.

One of the times Kumail’s attempt was introduced it was mentioned he was a star of the silver screen or something along those lines which I don't think made it in.

Greg's first take of the ad link where he said to shout into the night he also said to send him a video of it, but redid it because he didn’t want people to send it to him.

We had a false start after one of the ad breaks because Kumail clapped with excitement before it was time and the audience took his cue.

Mark the warm up comedian said there had been some all time moments in the first 3 episodes, and that he had never pitched a task, but he had pitched Alex an evil way of torturing a contestant that he hopes may appear in future.

And finally, my partner and I spent a lot of the recording trying to work out if Amy Gledhill was lady featherington from Bridgerton (she isn't), I think her outfit this episode particularly leant into that confusion.
