UK family with kids (13, 7 & a 3-month-old baby) – Best base in Florida without Disney + private villa & car rental advice?

Hi everyone,
We’re a UK family planning our first Florida trip with our 13-year-old, 7-year-old, and a 3-month-old baby. We’re not planning to visit Disney World at all, so we’re looking for recommendations on the best area to base ourselves.

– happy to invest in a nice villa and car but want good value overall. 14-21 nights
Any recent experiences from families who’ve done something similar (especially with a baby) would be brilliant. Which location worked best as a relaxing yet fun base?

Key preferences:
• A private villa with its own pool – this is ideal with a baby and young kids

We’d love recommendations on:
• The best area to base ourselves that gives easy access to nice beaches while still being convenient for other activities
• Suitable itinerary ideas for our mix of ages
• Practical tips for travelling from the UK with a baby and young children – flights, jet lag, packing, etc.
• How realistic mid-late August is (weather, hurricanes, crowds, heat) and any must-dos or things to avoid at that time.

We’re mainly looking at Florida but are open to California too. However, we feel Florida might be the better choice for relaxing with a baby, easier access to private villas with pools, and better overall value.

Thanks so much! ☀️
