Type 1, MDI and Elective C-Section Question

Hi everyone, some advice/information needed.

I'm type 1 diabetic, have been for around 27years and I'm injections only, never been offered a pump unfortunately cause my 'control' has been deemed as 'good' by the hospital.

Anyhow, I'm due to have an elective c section in a few weeks time (after trying for a natural birth with my first that ended in an emergency c section since I was induced at 37+5, my body just wasn't ready) I've been told I won't be allowed to go past 38 weeks again, so that's why I decided on an elective c section.

Since my first was emergency I didn't have to do the whole fasting thing the night before and now my consultant is saying about reducing my basal the night before, no rapid acting the morning of and my bloods having to be between 4-8mmols overnight and the morning etc before it's considered 'safe' for surgery. This all just adds an extra layer of stress and work and I don't know how likely it is I stay in this range if basal is reduced or bolus is supposed to be limited.

Has anyone any previous experience with this or any advice to give which might help? I'm in the UK if that makes a difference.

Newborn, Toddler and Sickness Question

Hi everyone,

A question for anyone with a kid(s) and another on the way.

With my first baby, like many couples I'm sure, we had a real little bubble of it just the 3 of us and we could enforce the 'no sickness around baby' rule with our family and friends. We were very lucky and our son never really got any sickness at all until he started nursery just after his 1st birthday.

Now that we have a second on the way in a number of weeks, I'm so afraid about sickness with a newborn. With our son in nursery we no longer have the luxury of keeping sickness out of the house because he brings home any illness he's exposed to in nursery.

Of course I've had thoughts about taking my son out of nursery and keeping him home with me and baby to limit sickness but, I'm also aware this may not be fair or fun for him because he won't have his little friends to socialise with and I won't have the capacity to do as many activities with him with feeding a newborn etc.

I will obviously make sure he scrubs his hands etc when coming in from nursery and he gets a bath every evening as well, but I was just wondering does anyone have any tips or tricks that have worked for minimising sickness with a newborn and toddler at home? I'm just so apprehensive and scared that such a tiny baby will get something and be at a disadvantage compared to our first!
