We are not Communists/Bonasera also

Solozzo wanted access to Vito's influence. Vito refused this. But had not other families over the years asked for such help?

Or was the Turk's request the very first time after 20 years or so of Vito being in such a position that anyone had thought to ask for Vito's help and he turned them down?

And Barzini showed he was connected with the Turk clearly by his little quip.

Also, had Bonasera gone to Vito before the trial, perhaps the scoundrels who beat his daughter wd have been serving long sentences -- I guess the undertaker did not think it necessary.

Note: I think as others have said that Vito did in fact share his judges; Barzini then was saying, no matter what, you always have to provide this service even if you think it will compromise your (Vito's) relationship with the judges. This unreasonable position is perhaps in part why Barzini needed to go, even without his role in Santino's death.

I wonder if Barzini was at the wedding out of genuine friendship or because Familes' members socialized with other members or "keeping enemies closer" -- perhaps that early scene was supposed to come back to the viewer when Michael says it. Also, Geary was quite an example of that. A man Michael had to have despised; but after the brothel incident, they were very close indeed.

Here's what I don't get abut Fredo

After the shooting of Vito, Fredo looked like he would rather be flipping burgers or cobbling shoes than be involved with the family business. And prior to this, at the meeting with Solozzo, IIRC, he did not seem very engaged.

So not only did he seem not very interested in the serious stuff and even he would have had to admit that he was unsuited to it, but after fumbling with the pistol when his father was shot, why did he think Vito would choose him as a successor? Why did he believe Tessio and Clemenza would listen to him? Even the way he could not control his wife showed his complete unsuitability for leadership.

He also knew that Michael had heroically taken out the Turk and McCluskey -- did he not think Michael had earned becoming the Don?

I mean, even Fredo would realize that running a nightclub was a nice, easy job that 99% of the population would not mind doing. What did he really expect Vito to do?

Firstly, "fumigate" is a pretty different word from "exterminate", but I guess a person might make such a mistake.

But would Clemenza really react that way when he was in fact planning to shortly shoot Pauly?

Also: Did Paulie not get off kind of easy? Carlo who did a similar thing, that is, was not directly responsible for Sonny's death, was killed horribly.

I wonder if Paulie was killed relatively easily because it was felt that Paulie did not fully know what not showing up to work that day meant or even he was actually sick that day. They no longer trusted him, but they did not fully believe he intended to help have Vito murdered.

I am just seeing this episode of the second incarnation of Outer Limits, made in 2000. I am not sure why I missed it on tv. Anyway, without specific spoilers, I would say it is as gruesome as anything I ever saw on television and rivals a lot of horror movies. Thoughts?
