My cat Charlie when she came to us vs. Today

Charlie, or by the full name given to her by my mother: Charlie Körbel Fußballgott. ( Yes, we are german and yes my mother is a fan of Eintracht Frankfurt and yes she is female but we got her a male name.)

My parents got her on the 27.September 2016 as the second of two cats my parents got that year while I still lived with them. I have since moved out but both cats are alive and well and I visit them most weekend.

She always was and still is the more active of the two and and tries everything to steal food from her sister Trozki ( named by my brother).

First picture from the first week we got her, the other three from the last few months.

Einheitsfront in real life, the bitter truth.

I have seen, in this sub and others a lot of wrong assumptions about how a Einheitsfront (United front of SPD and KPD) was discussed during the Weimar Republic, that one of the two partys had proposed a Einheitsfront to the other and got refused etc. so I wanted to clarify somethings.

The following is true for the late Weimar Republic, more or less the time the game covers.

The Truth: NOBODY in either the KPD or SPD leadership supported a Einheitsfront, atleast if we are talking about a coordinated teamup of the two partys.

The SPD never considerd it more than a communist propaganda slogan.

The KPD paid lip service to the Idea, yes. However their „Einheitsfront von unten“ (United front from below) concept was not based of cooperation with the SPD or the free unions but instead on using popular topics to make SPD voters to switch their support to the KPD.

There was some local cooperation between their front organisations, especialy in repelling SA attacks or organising strikes but they were heavily repressed by their higher ups.

It was not unheard of that Communist and Socialdemocrat sport groups fighting together against the SA but playing games against each other would get them expelled in no time. Wider local cooperation only happend in strongholds of smaller socialist partys if they could force them together with enough pressure.

Because: There were indeed some who fought for a real United marxist front. The smaller socialist partys, most of whom would unite in the SAPD, as well as some progressive Interlectuals. They tended to have a much more pessimistic view on Situation in Germany and the rise of the Nazis (which was a reason to get expelled from the KPD for example).

The most prominent fruit of this line of thinking was the „ Dringender Appell “( urgent appeal) where a number of german Interlectuals like Thomas Mann and Albert Einstein in an open letter called for an electoral Alliance of KPD and SPD at the very least to defeat the Nazis and build a socialist Germany which got promptly ignored by the KPD and SPD leadership.

Even when Hitler got appointed as Chancellor the SPD remained passive, the KPD wasn't really concerned and their call for an general strike was nothing more that an Propaganda move as part of their Einheitsfront von unten concept like their similar call to strike after the Preußenschlag.

Only in the comming weeks they realised how serious the Situationwas and by then it was to late. Münzenberg managed to organise „ Das freie Wort “ ( The free Word), a last call for freedom were Communist, Socialdemocrat and even Liberal Interlectuals stood side by side but a few days later the Reichstag burned and legal resistence got Impossible.
