WFH accommodations approved

Has anyone been successful in receiving WFH accommodations for medical reasons (any number of days)? I don’t mean interim accommodations from your manager, but approved accommodations from a DAS (disability accommodation specialist).

Would you leave if you could?

My old manager reached out (private sector) and asked if I wanted to come back. I’m on the fence.

It’s also 5 days in-person, but only 15 mins from my home (current commute is 1.5h each way). The salary is 20% lower, but vacation time is much higher. The work is exhausting but I do like the work… it’s client-facing so you see the impact of your work, and very little political crap to deal with. Great pension and benefits.

I’m currently on interim accommodations and hybrid, and have been waiting a few months for a decision. My manager has no idea how long the request will take.

Accommodations

Anyone willing to share their experience in requesting medical/family accommodations to WFH?

- Timeline?
- Were you successful in attaining WFH accommodations?
- If not, what does grieving it look like? (Will interim accommodations be put into place during the grievance process)
- If the employer fails to provide accommodation as recommended by a physician, and it results in worsening of medical condition, who is liable?

My doctor submitted the paperwork months ago and I’m still waiting for a decision from HR. I’m very anxious that they could pull my interim arrangement any minute. Very grateful for any information you are willing to share.
