Seeking some clarity
The Polestar getting prohibited to sell new cars is no more news. Almost everyone who has ever seen or touched a car in the US and even beyond almost knows this. In hindsight, maybe that gave Polestar tremendous marketing leverage, which they could have probably never imagined.
I am a P3 owner (leased) myself. I haven't received any communication whatsoever, either from Polestar or from the local Polestar dealer in Grapevine, Dallas.
I am reaching out to the entire community to get some clarity on the current situation. I have seen tons of threads around this topic, but I haven't seen any clear communication or agreement from other Polestar owners.
So here are my questions :
Is the ban effective on all new Polestar models starting 2027, or is it on selective ones? My understanding is that, since the ban is driven by the underlying software lineage, it ends up being applicable to all the models. Correct ?
Did any of you receive any official communication from either Polestar US or from your dealer that you can share here? Are they even reaching out to every Polestar owner/lessee? I haven't seen any communication on their website or on the Polestar Investors website either.
What happens to the service network now? Do they just close shop? Do they transfer the service over to Volvo? I know my current Volvo dealer (I own a Volvo XC40 as well) are not allowed to service Polestars. I had a long chat with my service advisor in the past on this, and he patiently explained it as to why they can't.
Is Polestar offering any remediation options for current Polestar owners? Have they initiated or at least indicated via some official communications, that they will continue to provide all the necessary service support for as long as it takes? Are they providing some buy-back options?
For a consumer (any of us), what are the legal options available to walk into the dealership and dump the car right on their face and say "I'm done with this"? Not saying that anybody would want to do that (or maybe they do), but trying to understand the legal options available for consumers who are stuck in a situation like this . So far (knock on wood) with my 8 month old P3 (with 4000 miles), I haven't had any issues. It is the best driving experience I've ever had, and given an option, when my lease ends, I'd prefer to buy it and kept : "provided" I have a service network that I can rely on.
Thanks for patiently reading through this thread and for sharing your replies.
Cheers!
