Does HireRight actually email previous employers? Has anyone had a successful verification experience this way?

I recently received an offer contingent on a background check with HireRight, which includes criminal check, identity check, and verification of past 3 employers. Two of my experiences were short-term unpaid/volunteer (which I indicated on the form), so I am kind of relying on HireRight getting confirmation from my previous supervisors, plus some relatively informal but clear documentation like email exchanges agreeing to the experiences with dates involved etc.

They asked me for additional contact information, and I gave them the professional email addresses of my supervisors for both (they wouldn't accept their personal phone numbers). HireRight claims to have contacted one of them today. My question is has anyone here successfully had their former employer verify with HireRight over email? Do they make them fill out a form or how does it work? Any insight is appreciated as I am stressed that somehow they are not going to email or it will go to spam.

How long to wait after final HR meeting?

I have been interviewing for a position since the beginning of June. Last Tuesday, I had the final interview with the senior director, who told me she had one more candidate to meet and then they were hoping to make a decision by the end of the week. On friday, I got an email from the recruiter saying the team was excited to move forward and the final stage would be a meeting with HR, which had never been mentioned before. This Tuesday, I had the meeting and it was a casual kind of culture fit discussion with a brief revisit of salary at the end. I have no idea what to expect as previously I was told the interview last week was the final one. What are the odds they had the other finalists meet with HR too? Any thoughts?
