Emotional Draw

Hey everyone!
I have become a very energy-focused/spiritual individual over this past year. I don’t know why, but I have had this strong and emotional urge to uproot my life after graduating school this fall and move to Oregon. At first, it was just a fleeting dream. But now…. it’s something that has started to emotionally overwhelm me. I see videos on TikTok, photos on social media, and I just get overwhelmed and start crying.

Is anyone alone to explain this phenomena to me? Have you ever experienced it? Do I go with it?

Move to Vancouver/Portland

Hey everyone — I’m looking for honest opinions/advice from Oregon nurses, especially anyone who relocated there as a new grad.

I’m currently a nursing student in Florida graduating in December 2026, and lately I’ve been seriously considering moving to the Portland/Vancouver area after graduation instead of staying in FL. I’d likely be applying to nurse residency programs around Portland metro/Vancouver.

A little about me:

  • I currently work night shift as a tech in a Neuro ICU while in nursing school (I’ve been a tech for 4 years and have worked in 3 specialities)
  • I’m heavily leaning ICU after graduation (SICU/CVICU/critical care in general)
  • I’ve also been involved in nursing leadership/student organizations during school
  • I thrive in high-acuity environments and love critical thinking/patient complexity

Part of why I’m considering the move is honestly wanting a fresh environment and a different pace of life. I’m really drawn to the Pacific Northwest scenery/water/weather and I like the idea of living somewhere with access to both nature and a bigger healthcare market.

Right now I’m especially interested in Vancouver Waterfront or somewhere nearby because it seems like a good balance of calm + access to Portland hospitals/systems.

I’d love honest input on:

  • Best nurse residency programs in the area for new grads interested in ICU
  • Hospitals with supportive cultures for new grads
  • Reality of living in Vancouver vs Portland
  • Cost of living on a new grad salary
  • Whether moving across the country as a new grad was worth it for you
  • Any systems/hospitals I should avoid
  • Overall pros/cons of nursing in the Portland metro area

I know moving right after graduation is a huge decision, so I’m trying to hear from people who actually live/work there instead of romanticizing it online lmao

Would really appreciate any insight/advice :)
