I live on patriotske lige in Sarajevo. In our neighborhood, there have been extensions and expansions of houses for years without complete documentation. A large number of those buildings were legalized or received certain papers more than 10 years ago. All the houses are connected in a row, and the situation is almost identical for most of the properties.
This year, we also made an extension on our family house during the period when the law on the legalization of buildings was announced. The law was later postponed to a future date.
Two days ago, we received a demolition order, with execution starting in early June.
What is problematic is the fact that many other buildings that have been in the same or worse situation for years have been skipped, while our case was initiated almost immediately after the completion of the work. There is serious suspicion that this is a case of selective enforcement due to personal connections and influence from certain individuals in the municipality.
I'm not seeking sympathy or shying away from responsibility. I'm aware that the documentation wasn't completed.
There was also supposed to be a deadline for legalization.
But if the law is to be enforced, then it should be equal for everyone, not selectively against one family while dozens of identical properties are ignored.
I'm interested in:
- if anyone has experience with delaying demolition execution,
- appeals,
- administrative disputes,
- temporary measures,
- or lawyers who deal with such cases in Sarajevo.
Any specific advice or contact would mean a lot to me.
