Deuce is as sweet as they come and ready for foster or adoption

💙🐾 MEET DEUCE: A BIG, GOOFY PUPPY WHO DESERVES TO GROW UP OUTSIDE A KENNEL 🐾💙
Deuce #A573603 is only about 1 year old, but he has already been waiting at Prince George’s County Animal Services since August 25 after arriving as a stray.
This 70-lb neutered German Shepherd/Mastiff mix is basically a lanky teenage boy in dog form: playful, social, curious, treat-motivated and equipped with some seriously expressive eyes and floppy ears. 🥹
🐾 Friendly and social with people
💙 Playful, goofy young-dog energy
🦴 Very interested in treats
🐕 Interested in meeting other dogs, although he has NOT yet had a formal dog-to-dog evaluation, so proper introductions and decompression are important
👦 Has shown some especially promising behavior around young children
That last one really stands out. A volunteer witnessed Deuce during two separate interactions with children under 8. With a child who wanted to play, Deuce was enthusiastic, playful and friendly. With another little girl, he simply stood calmly while she gently petted him, without jumping all over or overwhelming her. ❤️
Of course, those observations aren't a guarantee of behavior with every child, but they're a lovely glimpse of the dog Deuce may become in the right home.
He is currently wearing a cone while a small skin wound heals, and his shelter notes say he could stand to gain a few pounds.
Deuce is not currently listed for euthanasia. He is a long-stay dog at a high-risk shelter, and the goal is to get him noticed before his situation ever becomes urgent.
