The Concert For Bangladesh (1972)
Hey! This is the fourth part of my “The Beatles In The 70s” series, where I’ll be imagining the band’s career if they didn’t break up. Here it is:
The Concert For Bangladesh (1972):
In 1971, Ravi Shankar asked George if he could perform with The Beatles in a beneficent concert to help the people of Bangladesh by raising some money from the concert. George, after convincing the rest of the boys, confirmed the presence of The Beatles. I’d be their first paid concert since 1966, and their first major public appearence since the rooftop concert in 1969.
They also called some friends to help: Bob Dylan, Billy Preston, Leon Russell and Denny Laine also perfomed at the event.
The concert was at the Madison Square Garden and was one of the boys’ (if not their) biggest crowds! It was a blast and it’s still considered one of the best live sets ever. The Beatles played old and new songs.
In February 1972, the double live album was released, featuring the whole set of all artists, including two sides only for The Beatles. It was a big hit and reached no. 1 in the USA and in the UK. No singles were released with it. All the money raised with the record was also given to charity.
