Asking for reviews

I've been pet sitting/dog walking for well over a year now and have worked with dogs for the last 9 years. I was on a dog sitting/walking app and had a few clients there and had previously worked at a doggy daycare and connected with many families that way. Since I moved, I have started my own business. My current clients are great and many have left either facebook or google reviews, but is it weird or unprofessional to reach out to my past clients (from "the app" or the daycare) and ask them to leave a review under my business profile? I feel so awkward reaching out because I didn't care for their pets under this business name. Should I just focus on having my current clients leave reviews instead? TYIA

WARNING: dog walking/pet sitting scam!!

I wanted to alert other dog walkers and petsitters about a scam targeting petsitters in multiple states. This was posted on the Nextdoor app in my area.

A couple of days ago I responded to a message posted on Nextdoor by “Jessica Sheley” who was asking for recommendations for a trustworthy dog walker. I responded with my interest to the email in Jessica's message. I'll include screenshot below of the email I received from a couple claiming to be moving to this area for work.

Something in the back of my head was sending up some red flags, but I did reply to his message and got another email back. I looked both him and his wife up online and couldn't find anything about them other than another dog sitting group for NC posting about this same man with the same exact email from him.

According to the other post I saw they offer to pay you upfront by check before ever meeting you and will ask you to use part of that money to buy dog supplies or pay a "shipping company." The check is fake. It will eventually bounce, and you will lose any money you transferred.

Please be safe and cautious out there, friends.

Pet sitting/walking websites

Hi everyone! I'm working on getting a website designed for my business and they want me to send them examples of other pet sitters/walkers websites that I like so they can get an idea of what I want/don't want. My problem is there is only ONE local pet sitter with an actual website so when I search that's all I'm finding. If you have an actual website for your business and are willing to link it below for me to check out, I'd be eternally grateful!

Making bite prevention fun

Has anyone ever done a bite prevention presentation for school aged kids? I'm trying to figure out how to make it interactive & fun for them. I don't have kids of my own, so I'm not sure what would seem fun and what is lame 😭 I have a slideshow and I was thinking of handing them all little paddles with red & green and showing different photos of dogs in red or green zones ( loose body, lip licking, whale eye, soft eyes, etc) and having them raise the paddle on the color they think matches the body language, but is that lame? Lol. I also want to send home a sticker pack and some material for parents. Any ideas are appreciated!!

A month late on payment

I am a dog walker/pet sitter. Most of my clients pay at time of service. However if I see my clients on a daily/ weekly basis I allow a monthly payment at the end of the month. I sent an invoice for $675 at the end of May. I give a 7 day grace period after I send it before I send out reminders. I've sent out a reminder every week since the beginning of June. He replies every time, apologizes and tells me he/his dad will pay it. My last message was very stern telling him that his late payment affects my bills and that it is due at the end of the month. I have not walked his dogs since May because they were planning on being home with them a lot more this summer. I assume because of my persistence they will not book me in the future. If they do, I plan to require a 50% deposit of estimated service cost prior to scheduling any service for them. They were also one of my first clients when I opened my business, so I did not yet have agreements for everyone to sign. I now have one for all of my clients which points out my expectations and additional fees associated with late/non payments. But because he stopped walks for the summer, he had not signed it.

I'll be mailing out a demand letter in the next few weeks and hope that scares them into paying me. My question is, is it worth taking it to small claims? Or just put him on a no rebooking list and require payment if he ever reaches out again? TYIA

Business vs Personal HYSA for self employed person

Hi! I started my dog walking/pet sitting company in March of this year. I've been setting aside 20% (sometimes a little more) from every gig for taxes. I want to set up a HYSA to put it in until tax time. At the same time, my husband and I are getting garnishment paychecks that I also want to set aside in savings until the full amount has been received. Should I be keeping 2 seperate HYSA? I plan to keep the business just me with my husband helping on occasion so anything that we don't need for taxes at the end of the year will be my "tax return" (aside from a few businesses expenses I have planned) and go into my personal bank account. So any thoughts?? TIA

Need advice!

So I (30f) and my spouse (33m) moved to a new state in January and are living in my MIL house. She has moved in with HER mom just a few minutes away. We are renting it from her for the cost of her mortgage. However, just before we decided on our date to move we were informed that her soon to be ex husband would need to continue living there until he could find a place and move out. He had been without a job for several months and got one the week we were moving. He was hoping on being out by the end of February. However his plan to move fell through and he is still currently living with us. He is paying all of the utilities (electric, water & trash) we are paying rent and internet. We are fine with that. At this point the electricity bill has gone up so much ($300/mo) and atm it's just not something my husband and I can afford to take over until we are making more money, so we were okay with him continuing to live there.

The first couple months were going well. While my husband and I looked for jobs (because everyone was hiring, but no one is hiring) I cooked dinner almost every night for all 3 of us. He (roomate)would typically help clean up. Once we all got more busy with work and we're all home at different times, he started making his own food. Typically something in the air fryer and then eaten on a paper plate. Because I still cook homeade meals my husband and I are now doing all the dishes and kitchen cleaning. He also stays to himself in his room or goes out with friends, so I also take care of all of the livingroom cleaning. And while it's a little irritating that he never cleans the kitchen. (Aside from the dishes I dirty and the stove I use there are still counters to be wiped and floors to be swept and mopped. All of which I or my husband do). I'm trying to justify it in my mind because he really only uses the air fryer and some cooking & eating utensils. So I don't mind throwing those few utensils in the dishwasher when I load it every night.

However we have both a front yard and a fenced in back yard. Since the weather has gotten nice he has mowed the front yard once. He was having some shoulder pain a few days after so the next time it needed done my husband did it. Then I did it... then my husband did it again and so on. He has only mowed the front portion of our yard once. So now not only am I doing all of the house work but also the yard work. I'm sympathetic to his shoulder injury and don't want to exacerbate it, but does that mean that I just need to accept that the responsibility of maintaining the entire home, inside and out, is on me and my husband?

What do I do?
