IJW: Major Payne (1995)

So I finally got around to seeing the 1995 movie major pain. It has been on my watchlist for a couple years now overall, I was not a fan of this movie.

First of all the story wasn’t anything special. It didn’t do anything to hook me in. Secondly, it was listed as a comedy and I didn’t laugh once. Finally, I thought the chemistry between Damon Wayans and Karyn Parsons wasn’t that good. It felt very stiff. Overall, this was a disappointing watch.

IJW: Disclosure Day (2026)

So I finally got around to seeing the new Steven Spielberg movie disclosure day. I didn’t know much about it, but I kinda didn’t want to know a lot about it going in. I thought it was very good, but there were some elements that didn’t make it great.

To start off with, it took a little bit to get going, but once it did, it hooked me in. I thought the main performances by Josh O’Connor and Emily Blunt were great and the story had some intense moments.

The other small issue I had with the movie is that at times it felt longer than it was. Also, I felt like there were some scenes that were extended a little bit too much. Overall, though, while it’s not a top-tier Steven Spielberg movie for me, I thought it was very well done

IJW: Miracle: The Boys of ‘80 (2026)

One of my favorite movies of all time and a favorite sports movie of mine is the movie miracle starring Kurt Russell. That was a big reason why I was interested in seeing the 2026 Netflix documentary miracle: the boys of 80.

This was a great documentary. One thing I really liked is you went just beyond interviews. You got to have members of the team come back 45 years later to the same location that they played in and got to give their thoughts while watching highlights. To me that added a whole new layer to the movie. You also got to focus a good amount on the team and find out more about their backstories.

This is currently my number two movie of 2026.

IJW: Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

So I recently re-watched the 2008 drama Slumdog millionaire and upon a rewatch, it’s still a very good movie. I think the story really works, and I like the way that it’s told mixing the events of what Dev Patel‘s character went through with what he is doing currently. I also thought the story had a lot of good intense moments

Along with the story, I thought the performances from everybody involved were really good and I also enjoyed the music. I’ve always enjoyed this movie and that was confirmed with this rewatch.

IJW: Dreamgirls (2006)

So it had been years since I had seen the 2006 music movie Dreamgirls. Upon a rewatch, I loved it even more than the first time and this movie worked on every level.

This was a true movie in terms of investment from start to finish. I thought the story was great with amazing performances that got to show the qualities of the characters. Everyone from Beyoncé to Jennifer Hudson to Eddie Murphy all shined in this movie. I also thought the songs were top-notch. Finally, it was entertaining from start to finish.

Currently, this is one of my favorite watches of the year, even though it is a rewatch

IJW: The Forbidden Kingdom (2008)

So I re-watched the 2008 action/fantasy movie the forbidden Kingdom with Jackie Chan and Jet Li. This was an entertaining rewatch.

To get it out of the way, the acting wasn’t the greatest, but you don’t come to a movie like this for the acting. I thought the story was kind of fun with a group of outcasts banding together to save a kingdom. Whats also fun is that they added lore and a backstory for you to get invested. The biggest positive for this movie though is the action. Some good fight scenes especially one between Chan and Li.

Overall, this movie is ridiculous at times, but I enjoyed it for what it is: a fun action/fantasy movie with some fun performances

IJW: To The Bone (2017)

So I just re-watched the 2017 drama To The Bone on Netflix. Last time I saw it was when it came out. I I thought that it was very well done with a great performance from Lily Collins when I first saw it so I wanted to see if it still held up.

To be honest, this is actually kind of a hard movie to rate. This movie delves into characters who are dealing with anorexia or eating disorders.. They tell the movie in such a powerful way. My small issues are with the elements of the movie in which some of the acting isn’t great and I feel the message could’ve been a little bit more powerful.

On a positive side, though, Lily Collins is exceptional in this movie. When I saw it before, I thought if they gave nominations to Netflix movies in 2017 that she should’ve been nominated for best actress and I still believe that.

Overall, this is a very good movie that had some elements that didn’t get it to the amazing level for me

IJW: Stakeout (1987)

So a movie that had been on my watchlist for a while that I finally got around to seeing was the 1987 movie stakeout with Richard Dreyfuss, Emilio Estevez, and Madeleine Stowe. Overall, I thought it was good.

While the performances, especially from Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez were good, I was never fully invested in the story and therefore it wasn’t intriguing enough. I’m not saying it’s a bad story, but it didn’t do enough for me.

IJW: Little Monsters (2019)

After having it on my Hulu watchlist since it came out, I finally got around seeing the horror movie Little monsters from 2019. The plot sounded interesting enough and it had two known stars in Lupita Nyongo and Josh Gad. Unfortunately, this movie was average

I think the best thing about this movie was the plot. The performances were OK with the best one going to Lupita Nyong’o but it wasn’t enough to get this movie to a good status for me.

IJW: Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the Crystal skull (2008)

So I just re-watched 2008’s Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the Crystal skull for the first time in many years. I remember liking it on my first watch and on a rewatch, I still really enjoyed it.

Now it is ridiculous at times, but I also find it entertaining. Let’s just get the weakest part of the movie out of the way and that is the story. There are only to the story that are outlandish. And kind of don’t mix with Indiana Jones. Other than that, there’s some fun action scenes in here, including car, chases, and fight scenes. Along with that, I think the performances are pretty good including Shia LaBeouf. Finally, I liked the adventure.

This is a hot take, but I actually prefer this movie over last Crusade.

IJW: May December (2023)

So before the 2024 Oscars, I had never heard of the movie, May, December, and after looking at the plot, it did not seem like a movie for me

Fast-forward two years and I decided to watch the movie for trivia purposes, and I will say that this was actually a big surprise. I quite liked the movie. I thought it was very well done.

Let’s start up with the story. I thought the movie did a good job of telling a story that was intriguing and investing, but also unsettling. It definitely makes you feel uneasy at times. There were definitely some twists and turns that I did not see coming along the way. Add to that the performances. I thought the main three actors Julianne Moore, Natalie Portman, and Charles Melton all did great jobs. They showed you complexities in their characters and that’s what made them more interesting and got me to pay attention more.

Finally, I will say that the score is very good. It added to that drama and uneasiness. I don’t know if I will rewatch this movie again, but I will say that after my viewing that it is a great movie that surprised me.

IJW: Alligator (1980)

So I watched the 1980 B horror movie Alligator. It had been a movie that had come up on a movie bracket and people praised it so I thought I would check it out. Unfortunately, I was not as much of a fan of it as other people.

The biggest issue for me was that I just didn’t find much entertainment in it. Also, I was wanting more ridiculousness given the type of movie it was. That being said, it wasn’t all bad. The acting was OK and the premise was good.

IJW: The King of Comedy (1982)

So I have owned the 1982 Robert De Niro movie the king of comedy for a couple years now and I finally got around to seeing it. I am definitely going to be in the minority, but I wasn’t a fan of it.

I wanna start saying that I don’t think it’s a bad movie, but it’s definitely not as good as some other Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese movies that I have seen. There are several issues that I have with the movie.
I don’t think there is a great flow to the movie. It seems kind of hectic and choppy

The other issue I have is the performances. The performances by De Niro and Jerry Lewis are good, they’re not outstanding. Also, the story is OK and I felt like there were some scenes that kind of dragged and worked a little too long.

Overall, I wanted to give this movie a chance and see if it was as good as people made it out to be. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work for me.

IJW: The Fog (1980)

So I am a fan of John Carpenter and especially his horror movies. The Thing is my favorite horror movie and Halloween is is in my top 5. With those in mind, I was really looking forward to The Fog from 1980. It did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

The thing I liked most was the Suspense. You didn’t know what was going to happen next and it keep me glued. I also thought the performances were good. The story was probably the weakest aspect but it was still a good story.

This movie is a top 10 horror movie for me

IJW: Private Benjamin (1980)

So a movie that had been on my watchlist on Tubi for a while that I finally got around to was Private Benjamin starring Goldie Hawn from 1980. I thought it was a good movie but didn’t do enough to make it a great movie.

I thought Goldie Hawn was good in her role and it was a solid story, but it didn’t intrigue me enough overall. As far as the rest of the performances go, there was not a bad performance, but there wasn’t any that stood out.

IJW: Thief (1981)

One movie that people had been talking about that was on my Tubi watchlist that I was finally able to watch was the 1981 movie thief with James Caan. After watching it, I thought it was solid but not great.

While James Caan was the standout and the score was very good, it didn’t draw me in like I thought it would. I thought the story was good, but did not do enough for me.

IJW: Arthur (1981)

So a movie I was able to get off of my watchlist from Tubi what the 1981 movie Arthur with Dudley Moore and Liza Minnelli. Overall, this was an above average movie for me.

As far as positives go, I thought Liza Minnelli was the best performance in the movie and I thought there were some good moments. Finally, I like the main song. Overall, though, it was good otherwise, but didn’t do anything for me to elevate it.
