Perhaps this has been addressed, although I haven’t found anything about this through google and Reddit searches, but after hours of racking my brain on why Final Fantasy Rebirth background textures looked like trash, Gemini gave me the answer. I have a 9070xt and 7800x3d and optimization of FF7 Rebirth aside, there was really no reason it should’ve kept higher res background textures from loading. Even the PS5 pro version looked better on lower spec hardware. I spent hours trying to manually load mods and even customizing unreals engine.ini code. While I did get the mod command line to work, it was still giving me the same muddy textures. Then Gemini told me to run this command:

ujust toggle-steam-handheld-identity

While using the steamdeck=0 launch option will unlock certain features not available to handheld users, this command gives the option to stop Steam from reporting your PC as a handheld and downloading lower resolution packs for your games. This was a night and day difference. The original game size jumped from 80g to 130g. Now I’m wondering what other games have been nerfed that may not have been as obvious as FF7 rebirth was. I haven’t changed it back to handheld mode, because I don’t know if Steam

will try to patch it back to the lower res package.

Just a note, this will remove certain features in your quick access performance menu; however, if you’re running bazzite on a pc, the TDP and other power feature are intended for handheld APU’s and don’t work anyways. The ability the change HDR or scaling on the fly is useful though. It also seems to have broken the statistics level to only display FPS, but this might be something you would have to adjust in desktop as to what exactly will display. Personally I use the mangohud mod in Decky and it still displays that just fine.

Anyways, just something to be aware of as I haven’t seen it addressed anywhere really.
