Please help- I’m at my wits end.

Bought this money pit last year and the ceiling in the bedroom has a water spot next to the chimney brick. It’s coming from the left side (oil boiler vent). I’m assuming it’s because for whatever reason the roof butts up to the chimney and water is entering from the flashing. Mind you while this is an old home the second story and chimney extension were done 20 years ago. So really don’t understand this logic of the lack of chimney caps.

Anyway we can’t seem to find someone to work on the chimney for us. Called multiple companies found online. A few came out and only three followed up with quotes. One guy would only work on this chimney if he could work on our second one. That one isn’t leaking but the fireplace isn’t functional. It’s not in the budget to repair at this time.

The only two companies that gave quotes and will work on the chimney may be scams?

Company 1 says the issue is water intrusion from the bricks and flashing. Says they will repair the flashing and waterproof the bricks. Along with adding TWO chimney caps. I said I wanted one big one but the gay misunderstood that I wanted the flues cut down. I said I understood they had to stay but wanted one large cap in a bronze color to cover them. He still doesn’t get it and I feel like now it may not be a real thing? That’s quote is 3k

Company 2 says the damage is from the flashing and moisture from the oil boiler degrading the flue liner tile in the left chimney. Said they WOULD cut off the flues and install one large bronzed colored chimney cap. Quote is 4.2k for just the cap and flashing repair. The new flue liner that he claimed I needed wasn’t included in the scope?

My fear of the scam aspect comes from the fact that the company on #2 shirt was not the name of the company I called. Coincidently both guys were Israeli wearing similar outfits. I thought that was odd and when I googled Israeli chimney companies I found a post on this subreddit about Israeli scam chimney companies. So now I’m just concerned/confused.

Any advice is appreciated and if any of you know of a chimney repair company in the Greater Danbury/ Western CT area I’d greatly appreciate it.

How do you think Ali’s character would have evolved if Sasha didn’t gain weight? Since that seems to have factored into the writing.

To quote Cathy from The Big C, “You can't be fat and mean, Andrea.” Not that I agree, but…

That’s basically the writers’ of PLL’s thought process when Sasha gained weight. So if she didn’t do you think Ali would have remained a bitch or would she still have had the victim redemption arc? Would they even have kept her around? Did Marlene or anyone ever touch on what a different direction they had for the character?

Would property taxes lower if converting a 3bed/3bath/2car home to a 2bed/4bath/0car home? Important details below.

Husband and I bought a 2 bedroom home last year. We didn’t need the garage and planned on converting it to another bedroom and bathroom. I had noticed on the tax assessor website the home was incorrectly listed as a 3 bedroom home. The home has never had three bedrooms. Original blueprints show it was a one bedroom cottage and 20 years ago the last owner added the second bedroom.

This is the IMPORTANT part to note. Our contractor installed the wrong sized windows and the town wouldn’t issue the CO. The state allowed them to issue it to us on the condition that the room not be considered a bedroom but a den. So bedroom count technically hasn’t increased.

Now with that said we increased the livable square footage by getting rid of the garage but legally it’s only a 2 bedroom house.

So with the assessor being aware of that do we have an argument to make to lower our taxes? Or at least keep them the same. He was making it like we would still get an increase due to the added livable square footage. Even though for the last 20 years the home was being taxed incorrectly?

How to deal with ticks on dogs?

Moved here last year and I’m aware ticks are a way of life in CT. Especially in the woodsy part of the state I’m in.

Just wondering if there’s something SAFE I can spray on my dog to stop her from bringing ticks in? Or is it all just snake oil?

Or do any of you have any recommendations on what to do? I give her a monthly chewable but that only kills ticks that bite her.

TL;DR at end.

We bought our house last year and had some work done in the room where the air handler is. As a result we are getting the ducts cleaned… plus the home wasn’t really maintained in the years before us buying it. So it’s needed.

Anyway the duct in the dining room has a very strong odor and I can see some white spots in it which appear to be mold.

The tech that came out to quote said the odor is most likely cat piss and the piss just sitting in the duct created the mold. I know the previous owner had at least one cat and wasn’t keeping up with the house. He said we should just have a HVAC company come out to replace that section of duct since the cleaning isn’t going to 100% take care of that.

That makes sense however I live in an area where most companies won’t do work on your home unless they can touch everything within their line of work. It’s honestly so bizarre and I have no clue why it’s been so difficult to get anyone to do anything in this town. I’ve never experienced this in my prior years of home ownership.

TL;DR- spray to remove cat piss odor/mold?
